Japan, Philippines to Combat China’s Assertive Stance at Sea

Growth rate for smaller country like the Philippines means nothing.
A single even can influence its economy significantly.
As majority of PH people are still poor, spending too much money on defense means nothing.
Their military force is still far behind..

If you have not noticed, the Philippines has a fast growing economy second only to China in terms of growth rate. With their economy maturing, they can afford greater defense expenditure.

.
haha, yup. pretty amazing we spend almost 700 billion a year on the DoD 10,20 billion seems like junk change.
need to focus on asymmetric warfare to beat China.
asymmetrical warfare does it work? Does it deter US in anyway? The current difference between US and China is actually a little less than the difference between Vietnam and China or Philippines and China, though not by much admittingly.

So you tell me if it works on you?

.
real? they good?? they look like they could kill a destroyer in one hit maybe two

YAhkonts is like overkill them babies are meant to kill carriers.

a few dozen Brahmos would be nice too

Kommersant Day 26/5 cited sources close to the Corporation from tactical missile ( KTRV ) of Russia said that Vietnam is the second country after Russia put to equip the missile defense coast Bal - E sea advanced . If Kommersant information given is accurate , this is a good news , because it not only significantly enhance coastal defense capability for Navy Vietnam but also take advantage of the program results collaborative development of anti-ship missile Kh - 35UV that Russia and Vietnam signed in 2011 .

According to the published information , Missile Forces Navy shore of Vietnam are now being equipped with 3 missile defense system core coast Rubezh 4K51 , 4K44 Redut and K - 300P Bastion - P .

It's Official! India to Export BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missiles to Vietnam!

.
If US continue to spend so much money in defense system, rather than domestic economy
China will beat US in the economy war!

nah we are pro's.
but if a little asia tiger can take out a half of dozen of your brand new state of the art ships it might make you think twice on bullying in south china sea :D

when was the last time China has really warred with anyone??
i'd like to see how China fights :D

maybe but we are warriors and we make $$ from war.
if war wasn't profitable why would we be there?

see that's why Western military stuff sells better Russia and China, cause we actually use our stuff.

and remember we was there for the oil we got trillions out of the ground for last 9 years :sarcastic::sarcastic:

.
desperate times call for desperate measures. if they can't afford brand new frigates or w/e....they should go for the next best thing coastal ASM

Bal-E

imagine half of dozen complexes of those scattered across Philippine Islands .

Our government is also considering to buy coastal ASM but this would be under the supervision of the Army. Aside from the ASM, the Army is also planning to buy SAM (hinted to be the MIM-23 HAWK) to complement the coastal ASM.

If you have not noticed, the Philippines has a fast growing economy second only to China in terms of growth rate. With their economy maturing, they can afford greater defense expenditure.

It would have been faster if we open up the country to FDI because while we have already established our own local industries, it has no competition from foreigners which would allow Filipinos to have a wide selection of services and to develop Cebu and Davao as Manila is already choking in its vehicle traffic problems.

.
You are right in the past.
But China will make the war no longer that profitable.
US fight the war and China get the contract!
Like in Iraq, Afghanistan。。。:p:

HAWK is alright, but it's kinda lacking in range

Remember relative to them, we are also pros, like it or not, we have been operating mini AEGIS ships since 2004ish. Obviously 2 decades behind you guys, but the gap is closing, especially with our recent additions. Your Zumwalt will be a challenge, but relative to 150 ton ship vs the Burke, we come a long way, no? :D

Very true, if they can take out half a dozen of our best ships or even one, it really might make us think a bit more.

As to worry anyone, we really shouldn't, until the first shot has been fired, we can't predict how any conflict will end, but we can make some pretty good guesses.

it's all game theory with the PLA
you all haven't fought a real war in decades.

that's why I speculate PLA is going to attack one of it's neighbors to the south to test out it's weapons and command and control

Like in Iraq, Afghanistan。。。:p:

what contracts? you mean the oil contracts I told you we already sucked up all the oil 2mmpd for 9 years.

now IS is roaming lose. you think they will abide by contract of the former apostate government?? you got screwed.

We can test it out plenty against our own systems, it's only against a real major foe can we begin to test them out in earnest.

But US hasn't fought a major sea battle since WW2 either.

However with your experience and technology to go with training, you would still have a massive edge against us.

Give us sometime, a lot of times, military is all about the cash, especially the exercises, the more cash you have the more waste you can have. How can Vietnam test advanced missiles effectively if they only got a dozen or so.

.
China contract area are in the south Iraq, far from ISIL area..
not much impact..
Wars are in Sunni Muslim area...

US will not collapse of course.
But the rich guys will be richer, but majority will get poor.
And poor people will rely more on the low cost China products..

then who will buy China's products when US collapse ??

true true. we will see then. don't underestimate a few dozen or so Vietnam anti-ship missiles. just look at Falklands Argentina Super Endendards with 5 Exocets took out two RN Frigates those Exocets were 60's tech.

without U.S and NATO intervention IS will overrun Shia dominated South Iraq.
don't worry we will stop them before they get that far Inshallah.
