The decline is still slow. I dont see a big deal. Advance countries all need to deal with low birth rate.

It's a slow poison with no apparent cure.

However take the effect to a period of 40 years and the difference is huge; a population decline of more than 30%. Even during WW2 Japan's population only declined by around 1.5%.

But even 40 years is a blink of an eye when we look at a country's history in the long term. The average human lifespan is already 70 years.

Almost all developed countries today will face population declines by 2100 while human population will be driven by extremely poor countries. It's indeed a huge problem.

As long as they don't run out of ladies I am fine with it.

So Black Africans are the lowest form of humanity? based on what metric I wonder? Poverty? Africa has as much poverty as south Asia, Latin America. Voilence? The middle east/Pakistan/Afghanistan and central Asia is more war torn. Civilian gang violence? Latin America is way ahead. Drug use? Again Latin America is way ahead. Tribal peoples? Most of the Americas were tribal, but they are dead now and the rest are mixed with Spanish and Portuguese.

Africa is definitely not an organised entity but is often refrerd to as one which may scew the facts on the ground. Biologically speaking, a south African is less related to a west African than an indian to a Chinese. yet people tend to put then in a grouo called “black people” as if they are the same. Either way Africa ain’t the worst place on earth buddy.

Eventually Japan would recover like Ireland but it would take some time. Future population would likely stabilise at a lower number. Housing prices in Tokyo is becoming more affordable than before. Population decline is not the end of the world. It had happened throughout history.

I don't see Japan's population stabilizing anytime soon though.

The Irish's population decline was due to mass famine and emigration which followed subsequently. The population stabilized when food supply recovered and emigration fell.

Japan's population decline is due to low birth rates. It's a structural problem arose from permanent lifestyle changes and shift in values in a modern society. A huge proportion of women are unmarried.

Because it's structural, it's a complicated problem with effects longer lasting and devastating (numbers-wise) than wars/revolution/famine/disease/natural disaster. It's the first time in human history where a population is falling due to structural low birth rates and not temporary spikes in high death rates.

The TFR is unlikely to recover to above 2.1 anytime soon. Even Vietnam's TFR is below replacement rate despite still being a largely rural/agrarian society.

Liberal immigration policy won't be able to stabilize the population as well because Japan's population is too large (currently, lol) to depend on immigrants for the demographic shortfall.
