When it comes to military industry, Japan is not versatile at all.
Japan's military capability restricted by its constitution is just an excuse.
Even without it, they still cannot match the military capability of the P5.

You have point. Prior to this July we had limited ourselves. But even with said limitation, Japan was capable of building one of the largest navies in the world. Now that we have removed article 9 from our limitation and R&D ventures, be expected to see new designs and new products coming out. En masse.

Thank You for sharing your view, my dear.

I Agree i have been carefully studying their Military industry it is just the same as Pakistan working on small arms and artillary equipment and other medium stuff all they have is money and license to product equipment which US has approved sold and given blue prints to develop...F-15J is still not upgraded in home can't manufacture more than 80-90 F-2s why? money is not the problem does it matter if the aircraft is expensive or not or the important thing is protecting Skies so why neglect Air Force and invest in Navy well the simplest answer could be US nod require to Manufacture more but I guess US sold them F-35 lobby worked hard to make sure money goes to next attrition and new US product. Give Pakistan $30Bn and see what they come up with. Ofcourse Japanese Navy and products coming out are good and we'll continue to see more but yet French and UK are developing sophisticated Navies.

With respect I think Major power or not it means nothing, we have seen it countries destroyed by NATO/US more powers would do the same instead of making peace.

Plus Japan will now start exporting equipment as well.
Japan is keen for India to buy Shinmaywa seaplane and India to acquire it...and IIRC negotiations are on.

The Nimitz supercarrier is 100 times more powerful, and you will never own one like this.

There is no comparison here.

Nimitz has catapult system so it can launch fighter jets. Izumo can only carry helicopters because it doesn't have the same sophisticated system. It will need a major redesign if it wants to be an aircarft carrier rather than a helicopter carrier.

Nonetheless, japan does not need an aircraft carrier because she does not need to project power all the way around the world. Her local air bases are enough.

A helicopter carrier has many advantages over a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.

Izumo cost 1.2 billion, while Ford class carrier cost 13 billion with an additional cost of a few hundred million each year to maintain the nuclear reactors. You can probably build 20 izumo for 1 ford.

A helicopter carrier is also good for disaster relief missions as it can carry a lot of troops and can takeoff helicopters for search and rescue missions.

Yep, it is better to face the truth.

Not denying that your WWII navy capability was impressive for a country of your size.

Blame the US for destroying your military capability, and now you have to start everything from scratch.

I agree. We are interested in the Brahmos.
Brahmos is a very versatile platform. Its mini version is also coming up. If you buy Brahmos, your strategic profile will improve dramatically. Chinese navy will literally piss. We have other missiles like shaurya and K series. they are also very accurate and almost impossible to intercept.

IIRC one version of F-35 can be used on such helicoptor carriers as well. So it can still be useful for projecting power.

Yes. That was specifically demonstrated during Exercise Malabar 2014.

And it will be perfect for the VSTOL based F-35Bs ;)

Hi, we had produced the F1, and yes you're right that Japan had for a long time done a joint research and R&D with the United States. I take this as a positive value because we are able to learn from American designs and practicalities. It can be used to improve on our own.

There is benefit with joint research and joint production. The benefits of this is shared cost , shared technologies, and greater confidence with related military markets.

Thanks

I know F-1 and i did not mention it at all, Japan did no serious research to develop comparative Aircraft to replace or develop similar type like F-4s and other US Aircrafts in 60's, 70's and frankly don't mind US restricted Japan and insisted upon buying their products almost most products are all under license with NOD to produce Number and not going beyond that but requiting US permissions. i know some products are joint research but most are purely licensed products. Does share costs keep the product cheap F-2 can't be produced above 80 because Japan considers it liability and expensive at $100m+ they even scrapped plans to replace and produce the aircrafts that were destroyed in typhoon due to costs.

We'll see when F-35 comes out.

Projecting power with 6-8 F-35s on Helicopter Carrier lol.

List is outdated.

China has 1 and India 2 Aircraft carriers.

.
This is a light carrier, it has just been launched this year. It will soon launch F35Bs. It is not meant to be a super carrier, my dear child. We have no need to launch a super carrier, just yet. Japan does not consider itself a super power, we are just a major power. Only the United States has the capability to maintain a 10 CBG force simultaneously. Actually they are even building 2 Gerald Ford Class AC now.

PS. At least Japan was capable to build our own carrier. We are building our 2nd Izumo class. Unlike China, which had to buy an old soviet carrier, aka Liaoning. The emphasis i want to say here is that we have originality. Not bad for a "pacifist" nation. lol

lol, yes come to the dark side. This forum will do that to you. Maybe one day you can revert back to making realistic points instead of well this.
