Japan inches closer to major power status

As I said France and UK have many advantages over Japan...but still all they can do is follow the US and do limited military operations in their former colonies. So being like these two countries is far away for Japan, and even if you succeed, you will not be able to do anything really meaningful...

As for my country...we are here in the Asian section of the forum, in a thread dedicated to Japan...so let's talk about your country ok ? ;) Feel free to talk about France in the European section - I do not really care. I talk about France everyday with fellow French people, it's not really interesting, but if you are interested go on.

Japan is effectively under occupation since her defeat in the WWII. Japan cant even make occupation forces leave its lands (Okinawa) how on earth they think they'll be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

.
Japan , by definition is a nuclear nation. We have the ability and fissile material to create a nuclear weapon if we so desired it. We have showed restraint by not going into nuclear military research, as it is against our interest to do so.

We have ballistic missile capability, and if we so desired to become nuclear-armed, it is verily easy for us to do so.

It is not in our interest, right now, however.Conventionally speaking, the JMSDF is greater than the French and British Navies. I would encourage you to research more.

What more? Just because you have 6 watered down copies of the American Aegis DDGs?

Do you have the true sophisticated weapon like this?

France and UK have more political influence due to UNSC and former colonies as well as one of the top 3 leaders of EU.

Economically, they are smaller than Japan.

Who is more powerful? Doesn't really matter, people can argue all day on this, they are powerful asymmetrically.

You're right. It is unproductive to argue between EU, US and Japan. Because all three are aligned entities. Japan has secured military R&D partnerships with the three major EU states: France, Germany and UK. So it is pointless for us to even debate such unpractical differences. Because in the end, we are all interested in the stability of foreign trade, and regional peace and stability. :)

It doesn't matter how many outdated graphs you bring up here.

Your JMSDF is simply just a toothless cat, and you are a threat to nobody.

You clearly do not know what you're talking about, child. :)

It's going to take a long time, regardless of these recent measures. Japan has to make up for decades upon decades of lost military prowess.

Exactly, they have decades of make up to do.

However, our Japanese friend here believes that they can pull a US military overnight if the constitution is gone.

What a bunch of dreamers. You can make some video games and electronics, but you still an elementary student in making the sophisticated weapons.

You clearly do not know what you're talking about, child. :)

A declined second rate nation.

cool chart, pretty old, but very cool. I want to see that Frigate in action. If it's real.

But either way, your neighbor is China, even doubling your GDP, brings you to, well us today. So major power, great power. Whatever the term, it hardly matters.

Japan is powerful, if your neighbor is anyone else other than us or US, you be the deciding member, but it it us. So, yea.

JMSDF and JASDF aren't more powerful than the air force and navy of France/Britain.

They have the most sophisticated nuclear subs in the world, while you don't have it, nor you have the capability to build by your own.

And Britain can still produce the world top notch turbofan jet engine, but in comparison, your indigenous jet engine for Shin Shin is a joke.

Not to forget dependent on US for major military hardware license to produce means nothing even Turkey produces alot of components with NOD of US if US restricts Turkey or Japan would be sitting ducks for their Military hardware like F-16s, F-15s. What is major Indigenous Fighter Jet Japan produced, not F-2

The launching of our first Izumo Class Light Carrier:

Hi, so whats special about Helicopter Carrier? maybe Future F-35 be deployed on it how many 6-8? even the Indian AC can only station 16-18 Mig-29K...with CM-400 AKG like cheapest Anti AC weapons in Numbers these light dual use ACs are sitting ducks in vast seas.

The Nimitz supercarrier is 100 times more powerful, and you will never own one like this.

There is no comparison here.

This is a light carrier, it has just been launched this year. It will soon launch F35Bs. It is not meant to be a super carrier, my dear child. We have no need to launch a super carrier, just yet. Japan does not consider itself a super power, we are just a major power. Only the United States has the capability to maintain a 10 CBG force simultaneously. Actually they are even building 2 Gerald Ford Class AC now.

PS. At least Japan was capable to build our own carrier. We are building our 2nd Izumo class. Unlike China, which had to buy an old soviet carrier, aka Liaoning. The emphasis i want to say here is that we have originality. Not bad for a "pacifist" nation. lol

When it comes to the military industry, Japan is not versatile at all.

Japan's military capability restricted by its constitution is just an excuse.

Even without it, they still cannot match the military capability of the P5.

Seriously, you can't even build a DDG with your indigenous technology.

There is no room for you to make fun at China.

Hi, we had produced the F1, and yes you're right that Japan had for a long time done a joint research and R&D with the United States. I take this as a positive value because we are able to learn from American designs and practicalities. It can be used to improve on our own.

There is benefit with joint research and joint production. The benefits of this is shared cost , shared technologies, and greater confidence with related military markets.

Thanks
