Hua Hin (Thailand), Oct 24 (IANS) Japanese Prime Minister Yudio Hatoyama Saturday said his country desired better economic and defence ties with India.

He made the observation at his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the ASEAN and East Asia summits in this Thai resort.

According to Indian officials, Manmohan Singh underscored the importance of early finalisation of major economic initiatives the two countries have jointly begun.

He referred in particular to the Dedicated Freight Corridor Project, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

Hatoyama said he attached importance to the realisation of all these projects 'as symbols of cooperation between Japan and India'.

The two prime ministers agreed to work together 'in a positive and constructive way' on the issue of climate change, the officials said.

Besides attending the seventh India-ASEAN summit, Manmohan Singh will meet leaders of seven countries in the region. He will also take part in the fourth East Asia Summit Sunday before flying home.

Any specifics, on what kid of relations this means.

For economic

It would be helpful to allow Companies to Interact and set up shop easier in both nations. As well as Improve corporate relations.

I want Japan to have a greater Reach into India, more Sony show rooms and the likes. It would also make our Companies instantly more competitive.

Off course A free Trade agreement Is always a topic of discussion.

For defense

I would mean more joint exercises.

and perhaps an MoU on Military ties.

Cant see anymore due to Japans Pacifist constitution.

But if things change Japan has access to some of the most advanced Technology in the world in its private sector. That can in time be put to more destructive purposes.

All in all this is great news.

Personally I am against this.

Japan was the very first when they put economic sanctions on India in 1998.

The US who bombed them are bed with them but the Japs put sanctions on India.

This was a good opportunity for South Koreans like Hyundai, Samsung, LG, Dawoo etc.

Soon Japs realized their mistake and removed the sanctions. I say screw it.

Without Japan we won't be harmed in any way.

GB I have appreciated many of your posts. If you truly understand history you will realize why Japan put economic sanctions in 1998. They are a great group of people (although imperfect, but who is perfect). India will only gain from their accomplishments. You have to fear those who fill your lands with toxic goods made with slave labor subsidized by their govt.

We should fear those who will commit some issues but will lecture you when you do it.

I want Japanese companies to Invest more in India, Bring their Operations to India.

Transfer some of Japan's tech Culture to India.

Let Indian Consortium's invest in Japanese firms.

Japan has a lot of tech which India can have at low prices with increased Economic ties.

the Defense cooperation is just icing on another wise Sweet cake.

Let the Koreans build our Internet architecture and the Japanese our machines and gadgets.

Japan wants to return to a dignified state. But there's a difference between being a "Normal" country and a Normal country. Just like for India there's a difference being a "Superpower" and a Superpower.

The question is what does Japan and India want to be. :smitten:

Jap companies will force the Indian companies to compete head one, and through they can become stronger.

India can gain a massive technological leapfrog from Japan

Which should not be ignored. Whilst Japan gets access to a massive consumer market.

Dear Nomad,

Thats my personal view.

You have to fear those who fill your lands with toxic goods made with slave labor subsidized by their govt.

I am against anything and everything that comes with Made In China tag. People are so angry with chinese products that the big brands these days write assembled in China invented and manufactured in X,Y,Z.

Jap companies will force the Indian companies to compete head one, and through they can become stronger.

Others have already done that before Japs.

Videocon bought Dawoo's home appliances division while Tata's bought Dawoo's truck division. Today TATA's have a huge market in Korea itself.

Compare any Indian brand like Videocon, Onida, TATA, Maruti, Bajaj etc in 90's and in 21st century.

India can gain a massive technological leapfrog from Japan

Such as? Do you really think we are beyond Japan in technology?

this is done only in a limited way. I dont see Indian companies making In roads Into the the Lucrative Home entertainment market.

Why because there isn't enough competition to to force comapnies to take risks and expand quickly.

Indian companies are always afraid to take risks, Whilst Giants like TATA or Reliance can muscle their way through. And compete with the best.

Mid sized and more specifically smaller firms need more opportunities and Investment

Hell yes we are, Japan is About to Retail a Fully functional powered Exoskeleton For $4400.

They are light years ahead of anyone in the feild of Robotics alone.

Their Companies were Nearly Un-rivaled in the Home entertainment market.

They have a Booming Renewable energy Industry

above all that Japan still has a the worlds most efficient Public transport system.

If we could replicate even a fraction of that here in India, Ir would be a drastic improvement. With a population size that India has Public transport isn't a choice its a necessity, Its hard finding parking now its only going to get worse in the Future.

Letting Japanese Companies work Infrastructure tenders here, Might boost the Standard and male our own companies more competitive.

Do you think we can't achieve this? Its a matter of priority and ours is not robotics and Bullet train.

Whats wrong with Onida, T-Series, Videocon, Godrej etc?

Please explain further.

I dont agree with this. There are many examples.

Then lets work with te Japs so we can get access to what they are good at and they can get access to what we are good at

Robotics is a massive future Market, why not work with the Japs to get ahead of the rest of the competition.

And Infrastructure is also our priority and that involves Public transport. Which we need to completely overhaul.

Onida, T-Series, Videocon, Godrej

I dont see any of these guys coming out with the latest in Technology
No OLED, Gesture technology, no touch screen, No playstations, No Media center's or Hubs. we have entered the market in a very limited way , and now are too afraid to venture into New territory/Markets. Before someone else scopes it out.

We still dont a brand for Computer hardware manufacturing.

WE DO very limited R&D, overall.

Our companies are happy to get by with the way they are now, they Don't seem interested in Expanding into previously unexplored industries.

Indian Companies are good at what they Do but they dont seem intent on finding out what else they are good at.

And the best way to teach the Big guns a new lesson is toss them int he deep end and force them to adapt, to evolve

Indian companies always focus on aam admi's requirements.

Had been required do you think we are not capable of making I-Pods, X-Box, Playstation, touch screens and all?

We still dont a brand for Computer hardware manufacturing.

What is HCL and Zenith is into?

Atleast think of TATA's if not others.

GB

P.S: - Not to go to bed with Japan is my personal opinion based on their (Japan's) political actions.

I am very well aware of technology partnership benifits with Japan.

Be realistic on your goal! To beat Japan needs lot of cultural strength. Can India do that?
