The Japanese have been filled in the fluke about 100 years ago too long and hadnt be liquidated completely enough after WWII. So it is hard for Japanese to receive the result that they lost the way to catch up with their once weak neighbor, and they want to try the means their ancestors used again.
I think a war between China and Japan is very needed to redefine the relation of two countries and correct the very screwy mentality of Japanese. So I think it is not a bad news. The war is the best way to take people back from the confusion.

PRC has defined the relations using wars with about top 20 countries since it's started including big powers such as US, USSR, Korea, UK, France and many other European countries or some neighbors such as India, Vietnam incompletely although they think they were not enough.
There is only one country in top 20 that has committed very huge atrocities to China before the end of WWII but refuses to admit them even now and hasnt met with PLA in the war since PRC started. They admitted their failure to US and USSR in WWII, but they never admitted it to China because of the KMT's spineless and concession in liquidation. So Japan is the only country that refuses the result of the victory in World War II. And It is a very big pity that there has been no war between China and Japan after 1945. So Japanese are the most paranoid thinking they will defeat Chinese in any wars. So with the superstition that they are undefeated by other east Asia countries and the long-term advance in technology the Japanese self-superiority to the other Asians is very natural, that is easily seen from their "departing from Asia for Europe" strategy.
Nowadays the huge collision between the decline of their strength to other Asian country and the opinionated sense of superiority to other Asians has taken them into the huge confusion that many became easily self-closed or easily self-comforted, turning right is the anxious reaction some Japanese smugs. The phenomenon that politicians instigate populism like right wing is absolutely the manifestation of their incompetence in economy and politics.
So the war is very needed for Chinese to remove the innermost self-constraint in heart , for Japanese to redefine themselves and correct their very screwy mentality and for two countries to redefine the relation over one hundred years. I think the larger the war, the better Japanese, or their confusion will last over hundred years to next century.

Let be serious here. The Pacifist Constitution protected and helped them dodge a bullet from the Iraq War and the multitude of War that the US's led. I remembered back in 2000s, the US pressured Japan to take a greater role (In US's secret words meaning "be an active sidekick") in their effort "War on Terror". At the time, Japan used their Pacifist Constitution to prevent US policymakers from dragging them in. This time, it won't be an easy out for Japan.

For us, it is a win-win situation.
