The army chief should make public his agenda for his extended term, said the JI chief.

LAHORE: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has demanded of Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani justify extension in his term by presenting a balance-sheet of the anti-terror operation conducted under his command in the last three years and come out with a plan for the next three years.

“The army chief should make public his agenda for his extended term besides telling the nation results of the anti-terror operation launched by him,” party chief Syed Munawwar Hasan told the media personnel here on Tuesday.

He said claims were being made that peace had been restored in Swat and festivals were being held there to give an impression that the people were free there.

To confirm the impression, he said, independent media should be allowed to go there as people were not ready to believe in the press releases issued by the directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations.

If the situation in Swat valley had improved, as being claimed, troops should be withdrawn from there or else the government should admit failure of its policy, he said.

He cautioned the government not to give in to American demand of conducting army operations in North Waziristan and south Punjab, otherwise terrorism would spread to every inch of the country.

He regretted that Washington itself was wooing Taliban in Afghanistan to negotiation table, but was barring Islamabad from following the suit for establishing peace in its tribal areas.

Referring to the ongoing target killing spree in Karachi, the JI leader said the port city had been left at the mercy of militants as ruling coalition partners were exposing each other’s role in the deteriorated law and order situation.

Seeing a foreign agenda at work behind target killings in Karachi and Balochistan, he said it was aimed at creating anarchy in the country to propagate that Pakistan’s nuclear assets were unsafe and these should be given under international supervision.

Hasan alleged that private US army, Blackwater, could be involved in the Data Darbar suicide bombings, while Interior Minister Rehman Malik was defending the agency.

Really ! The Wikileaks and world media points to ISI and Pakistan Army for having links to Talibans.

I wounder if you really even believe in the army of Pakistan. lmao Definatly ISI will have links with Taibans same as any intel agency will have connection with targeted agency or enemy to plant spy seeds to gain their intel and if you and the world and indian media call and blame ISI for having links with them then we cant prove anything to you guys. Check out the news of today where US army has released the report that ISI and Pakistan's army is doing well and that again wikileak report reflect's 2004 2009 "that report reflect the time between 2004-2009" :pakistan::usflag::china:

Extension made Kayani controversial: Baig

Extension made Kayani controversial: Baig
Efforts being made to politicise Army, says Ansar Abassi

Wednesday, July 28, 2010
News Desk

RAWALPINDI: Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Aslam Baig has said that democracy would not get protection by giving extension to General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani as the extension had made him controversial.

He expressed these views along with Senior Minister of Pakhtunkhwa Bashir Bilour, former Chief of ISI Lt General (retd) Assad Durrani, defence analyst Talat Masood and Editor Investigation The News Ansar Abassi while talking in Hamid Mir’s programme Capital Talk on the Geo News.

Aslam Baig said that General Kayani should have been made the chief of defence staff, which was his right, because he had earned the recognition. He said that people had also started making a reasonable and respected person like General Kayani controversial.

Baig said that he had also recommended three-year extension in COAS’ tenure but his approach was different. He said that it was the need of the hour to make a joint command and Pak Army, Navy and Air Force should be put under it so that the harms that happened due to mistakes of the past might not be repeated. He further said that if Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had formed this command, he would have not faced those damages which he had to face.

He said that he had asked Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif and Ghulam Ishaq to form this command but they did not pay heed to him. Bashir Bilour, while talking to Hamid Mir, said that Mian Iftikhar rendered great sacrifices for the integrity of Pakistan and unless there would be peace in Afghanistan, Fata and Pakhtunkhwa, peace could not be established across Pakistan. He said that presently a third war was being fought in the province.

He said that although his party was a partner of the government yet a very small part of it and they were not given such position in the government, as they should be. He said that there was an abundance of oil and gas reservoirs in Waziristan, which was enough for the whole Pakistan.

General (retd) Assad Durrani said that Pakistan Army could only control the situation but whatever to be done socially, politically and economically has to be done by political government but it appeared not interested in doing so.

While replying to a question on the argument on the extension of the COAS, he said that he had rarely heard such a strange argument. He said it meant that everything would collapse after three years. “Will the system come to an end? Will the Army chief and the chief justice be appointed in line with the tenure of the government?” he asked some questions. He said that the prime minister did something to embarrass the Army chief, otherwise the extension would have been given some other way.

Talat Masood said that the present war could be won with the public support. He said that unless the civilian government realises its responsibility, the issue could not be solved. Ansar Abassi, while talking to Hamid Mir, said that efforts were being made to politicise the institution of the Army and added if General Kayani accepted the extension, it would be unfair.

He said that presently the policies of former General Musharraf were being followed and they would have to think over again on all the issues and solve the problems by themselves instead of Hillary Clinton or America coming to tell us what should be done to solve the problems.

He said that parliament had unanimously approved a resolution on this issue but it had not been implemented. Ansar Abassi said that the US was tearing apart the country’s autonomy and said, “We are not courageous enough to lodge a protest over it.”

I think JI has more problems with Pakistan allowing U.S. to stay in Afghanistan than PA fighting the Taliban. Fact is the JI participates in the same democratic system it wants to remove, unlike other parties such as Tanzeem-e-Islami and Hizb ut-Tahrir who refrain from participating in elections. Plus I don't think female JI members (professionals included) will get along well with the Taliban, unless of course Taliban changed their views on female employment and education.

COAS extension challenged in PHC

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

By our correspondent

PESHAWAR: A freelance journalist on Tuesday petitioned the Peshawar High Court (PHC) challenging the prime minister’s notification vis-a-vis the three-year extension in the service of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

The petitioner, Shahid Orakzai, stated that extension of COAS Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was ultra vires of the Constitution and should be declared null and void. He argued that in the 18th Amendment, Article 46 of the Constitution was amended under which the prime minister shall only keep the president informed on all matters of internal and foreign policy. Thus, under Article 46 there is no room for any consultation between the president and the prime minister, he contended.

Shahid Orakzai further stated that under Clause 3 of Article 243, the president was bound to make military appointments on the advice of the prime minister, but there is no mention of extending the tenure of any of the forces’ chief.

“The decision of three-year extension in the service of COAS is questionable as it can adversely affect the maintenance of discipline among the members of the armed forces as emphasised in Article 8 of the Constitution,” he said.

The petitioner stated that under Article 48 of the recently amended Constitution, the president within 15 days of receiving an advice require the cabinet or the prime minister to reconsider such advice either generally or otherwise.

Mr khurassan, Pakistan and its army need taliban in afghanistan, otherwise indian puppit will be sitting there as afghan president.

Some factions taliban might be against pak army, but on the whole they r lesser evil than Indian puppit in afghan presidency.
