Jakarta set to host Asian
Games 2018

After undergoing a thorough assessment, Jakarta is deemed ready to host the Asian Games 2018, an official has said.

After a meeting with Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at City Hall on Thursday, Wei Jizhong, the honorary vice-president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), said that Jakarta’s bid to host the second-largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games would soon be approved by the highest authority.

“After two inspections by me on behalf of the OCA, we consider Jakarta is almost ready to host the 2018 Asian Games,” Wei told reporters after the meeting.

“Jakarta infrastructure already met all requirements of the OCA. So the OCA is confident that Indonesia and Jakarta can deliver a wonderful and clean Asian Games in 2018,” he said, adding that the official decision would be made by the General Assembly of the OCA.

“In China we will have an assembly. All decisions will be made by the General Assembly of the OCA,” he said without elaborating further.

Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI) chairwoman Rita Subowo said that the official announcement would be made during the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, which will take place from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

“We’ve been invited to attend the council congress prior to the opening of the Incheon Asian Games and then the [Asian Games] flag will be handed to Indonesia at the closing ceremony,” she said.
While Jakarta is set to be the host city, Palembang, South Sumatra, will act as co-host.

VIVAbola - Menteri Pemuda dan Olahraga, Roy Suryo, bermimpi Indonesia bisa menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia. Menurutnya, peluang Indonesia menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia 2022 terbuka lebar.

"Tahun 2022 saya mencanangkan Insya Allah Indonesia menjadi bagian dari penyelenggaraan Piala Dunia. Mungkin kalau Qatar mengundurkan diri," tutur Roy Suryo usai menutup ASEAN Forum and International Conference on Sport Science and Technology (AFICSST) di Kuta, Bali, Minggu malam, 10 Agustus 2014.

Menurutnya, Indonesia menjadi tuan rumah penyelenggaraan Piala Dunia 2022 bukan mimpi mengada-ada. Segala perhitungan sudah dilakukan dengan cermat. "Kalau pemerintah ke depan tidak bisa memperjuangkan, itu dipertanyakan," sindir Roy Suryo.

Hanya saja, Roy melanjutkan, Indonesia tak bisa sendirian menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia. Pasalnya, salah satu persyaratan yang diajukan FIFA adalah wajib memiliki 20 stadion berstandar internasional.

"Mungkin kita bisa bergandengan bersama Malaysia, Thailand dan negara lain. Mungkin kita bisa menyiapkan 5 stadion. Misalnya di Jakarta ada, Jawa Barat ada, Palembang ada, termasuk di Bali," ucap Roy.

Tak hanya Piala Dunia, Roy juga mengaku bermimpi Indonesia bisa menjadi tuan rumah penyelenggaraan F1. Roy mengaku telah mencangkan diawal ia menjabat Menpora. Bahkan, Roy mengaku telah melakukan kajian dan mengunjungi langsung sirkuit di Australia dan Sepang Malaysia.

"Saya sudah canangkan ketika awal saya menjabat. Saya sudah mengkaji ketika saya berada di Australia, dan Sepang, Malaysia," ucapnya. "India bisa membangun sirkuit. Jadi, tidak ada yang tidak mungkin bagi Indonesia. Doakan Indonesia sukses," imbuh politisi Partai Demokrat tersebut.
