BEIJING — The J-15 Flying Shark is China’s newest attack jet, a sinuous fighter with the folding wings, shortened tail cone and bulked-up landing gear it needs to serve on China’s first aircraft carrier, which is expected to start sea trials soon. It is indisputable evidence of China’s growing mastery of military technology.

Does anyone knows how many of the J-15s that the future Varyag will carry aboard? What about the numbers of other air crafts included? Good job China!:china::usflag:

Probably the same as Kuzy: 18 Flankers. A hypothetical scenrio, what if sh*t hits the fan in, say, Angola (China's largest oil supplier in Africa). If China decides to intervene, what can a single carrier with lightly-armed air-wing do?

Destroy the air force of any African nation, no joke.

Good everybody,

Questions:
Can somebody highlight why is development of J-15 necessary when China has J-11? If it is for aircraft carriers, what is use of J-11BS then?
What is J-15 comparable with? F-18 or Su-33? (Just found its quite similar to Su-33 Sukhoi Su-33 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
What are the features which are sown in the video above.. sorry I couldn't read Chinese and those cannot be translated through google-translate to a translation of those will be highly appreciated :)

After PLAAF's first acquisition of Su-27sk in early 1990s, they decided to introduce the licensed production of these aircrafts. in mid-1990s, they began to produce Su-27Sk under the designation of J11A. After have produced 5 batches around 70 of j11A, SAC were not satisfied with it anymore. they made a decision, which pissed off Russians later, to stop the production of j11A and switch to a new variant J11B.

J11A albeit once a capable aircraft, were rendered insufficient in 21th century. its radar N001 is far from satisfactory and it can not be equipped with R77 or PL12/SD10. as a result, it lost to J10 in drills for a number of times. the major updates of J11B includes 1474 radar, glass cockpit, HUD, 4 redundant FBW (is it the name in english?) , higher percentage of composite material which made it 700kg lighter. it is compatible to all chinese missiles including PL12. meanwhile last two batches of J11A were also upgraded to have the capacity to launch R77/PL12.

J11BS is the twin seat version of J11B

J15 is a fancy name given by military fans. we don't know its real name for the time being. but it is most probably j11BH. SAC doesn't have any experience in producing carrier-borne aircrafts before. the last ship-borne aircraft china made was 80 years, which is of no use to today's design. therefore SAC copied the structure of T10, which is a prototype of Su33. its avionics is basically modified J11B. after all, t10 is only an incomplete prototype of a dinosaur aircraft.

including the Egyptian Air Force????

who in the middle east will even deploy jets? especially where theres a carrier strike group right on their door? unless of course they are being attacked but i really doubt they have the guts to do anything.

I seriously doubt the J-15 would become the principle air fleet deployed on future Chinese carriers. By the time the carriers are deployed, the J-15 would be rendered an obsolete jet as soon as it enters service, even if it is equipped with stuff such as AESA radar and RCS reduction technologies. Any hope on making a powerful carrier battle group will be dashed if a plane like the J-15 is deployed. The fact that China has multiple stealthy programs ongoing further degrades the J-15's potential.

It would likely that follow-on semi stealthy fighters (such as the Shenyang J-19 which is in late development) would be the bulk of the fighting force while the J-15 would serve secondary or training roles.

and its Made in China...:china:

China has taken the Su-27 and make it better than Russians...:china: and that's because we have no other choice than old Soviet tech, now imagine what would china be flying if we had access to Western tech like F-15E or Rafale?

Desperate to reverse engineer Rafale???
