J&K: Army jawan found hanging from a tree in Samba

Jammu: An Army jawan allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday.

The body of Naik Bhagwan Singh, a jawan of 23 Grenadiers, was found hanging from a tree near his official quarters at Bari Brahmana area of the district last evening, SHO Bari Brahmana, Arun Jamwal said.

A case has been registered in this regard while the further investigations into the matter are underway, the SHO added.

Suicide rates among soldiers (all over the world) are disproportionally high as are substance abuse rates. A military has no way of knowing what affect the immense stresses and strains imposed on the mind will have. Most humans are just not wired to endure this kind of pressure especially when operating in a CT environment. The majority of soldiers are taught to deal with this in training but a few are always going to react particularly badly......

Many western armies have opened such specialised hospitals after their experiences with soldiers returning from Afghanistan, Iraq rtc.
