What's new

Its right time to withdrew from ICC and cricket ?

Ministry of Sports should've used the abandonment of cricket in Pakistan during the last decade to promote football, tennis and traditional sports like hockey.

Apart from football, the games you have mentioned require proper equipment and facilities which at the moment isn't accessible to the poor.

I have never been a fan of cricket, so let's get rid of it or focus on domestic opportunities; PSL type of events are more than sufficient for what the cricket of modern time is all about.

We should better focus on other truly global sports, whether it's football, basketball, hockey, or even Formula racing. Winter sports can itself be a huge opportunity even from a financial perspective. We can easily develop Skiing, Sledging, Snowboarding, etc.

These are just examples of global sports without country-specific politicisation.

Tennis itself is a middle class sport, but so are hockey and squash. Both of which Pakistan has excelled in previously. Redistribution of the sports budget away from cricket would certainly provide enough facilities to begin the transition to other sports. Promotion of sports is incremental - capacity and infrastructure will build over the years

i think cricket bring bad name to pakistan more then anything else . its high time we should windrow ICC membership and move on . i hate this game . just google it almost all bad news insults and shame this game brings to pakistan . 206 world countries and only 10 can play cricket well . ask yourself its deserve what we did and what we earned from this game ? now its heavily politicize and money machine . i dont see it as a game . my country deserve better . if it was sport and remain sport may be we continue .i can remember all these years how whites treated us even in ground and white umpire look us down . i must say its game of slaves and masters . no matter how hard you try it will not change unless you pump billions and buy them like india did .

look at other way around . daily british airways and virgin Atlantic send b777 and b787 to lahore and islamabad . each aircraft have 20 crew . they are british nationals and daily they go to hotel from airport and 2nd team from hotel to airports for return flight without any security . they roaming on streets sometime in shops and markets there is no risk to them . but because each flight earn them money they have no security threat . when its time to play games they start excuses . same can be said for every country whom having diplomatic missions in pakistan . an estimated 8000 to 9000 diplomats and their families living in Islamabad .

did you ever heard egypt -indonesia .uzbikistan -brazil being insulted like paksitan for cricket ? no they did not because they did not play this stupid game .
yeah no one watches it anymore except a very tiny fraction!

Imagine us having a Lahore Grand Prix around the fort and Iqbal park. F1 did wonders for Baku and Azerbaijan I’m sure with proper planning it can also put Pakistan on the map.
Musharraf did try to start it. There was Formula one car and team of Pakistan.

Would love it, actually Lahore street circuit will be a blend of both Baku or Monaco.

Yes and No. It was not formula racing rather called an A1 Gran Prix and a brainchild of some Al sheikh Maktoum whatever, he soon became bored of it and rest was all history.

Better to switch over to football, especially considering Pakistan produces the balls, why not focus on a sport with true global appeal. I never liked cricket ever. It seems like one of the last vestige of the British empire, the nation is forcing itself to be measure by.

Also, football is an Olympic sport, while cricket may become one primarily due to Indian advocacy.

Definitely, a lot of sports were introduced by the British but cricket has a distinct colonial flavour to it. 🤮

Ironically, BCCI were the reason cricket didn't begin the process of becoming an Olympic sport sooner as they would lose summer revenue. The sport is held hostage to India, England and Aus. Not worth our time.

Switching to other sports won't solve the problems facing us. Afterall we will still have to join the governing bodies running those sports and we are still going to have to deal with US, NZ, India and UK.

Russia is banned from sending it's athletes to the International Olympic events. They compete as independent athletes

It was originally an olympic sport. England won the gold the first time it was included and France I think won silver. It was just that 5 day test matches and a month long multi-discipline sports event didn't go hand in hand

cricket is dead when cheap and poor countries with biggest hungry people started to show off.

ICC is irrelevant and useless now as every board decides on her own. Indians have ruined the game of gentleman with dirty politics everywhere.
india think it is leader just because half of the cricket lovers in the world lives in india because of big population or else cricket is not widespread like other games.

what a potential Iqbal park circuit could look like.

Russia is banned because of institutionalised doping. As for the first part of your answer, we have all the more reasons to diversify than putting all the eggs in one basket (cricket). We will still be facing multiple political and racism issues but having options always helps.

The walled city/ Badshahi mosque straight with DRS :super:

It hasn't been a sport in the Olympics for god knows how long. There was a recent push to get it into the Olympics, under T20 rules, which was until recently rebuffed by India and England.
