India’s choice of the Medium-Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMCA) under its largest-ever military fighter deal for procuring 126 such planes at an estimated USD 11 billion is expected to be known by the “end of this month”.”We are looking to start the commercial negotiations by the end of this month,” Air Chief Marshal P V Naik said at an event at Indian Women Press Corps(IWPC) today. Under the Defence Procurement procedure (DPP), the Ministry holds commercial negotiations with the company offering the lowest price for the product on offer and meeting the service requirements. The IAF Chief said if the losing companies don’t try to “put spokes in the wheel”, the deal would be signed within his tenure, which ends in July this year.

I believe that Indian government are smart to not rely on a single supplier(HAL) If HAL failed or delayed, than India would have no planes. Its great that multiple options are pursued.

Is this the reason why we are hearing stories that mmrca number would increase
coz there are rumours that IAF could increase the number to 216 or 260 after intial 126 aircraft are inducted
As per my info 60 Jaguars were meant to undergo full DARIN IV upgrade while another 40 Jaguars were meant to undergo just the engine refit
while remaining 40 jaguars were to be retired after 2017

Other jags were meant to remain in service till 2022 while DARIN IV versions could possibly serve till 2030 since they were inducted after yr 1999

mmrca as u know will first replace 5 Mig27 sqds and 2 Jaguar sqds there after an increased number could replace remaining 4 Jaguar sqds by 2024

HAL is probably the most corrupted state owned company in this world.

between 1992 and 2004, 2 Mig-21 were built there, 8 were maintained by HAL, 8 of them crashed later.

Stupid sensationalist journalism. All he said was that we will start commercial negotiations by the end of this month. Where did he state that the winner would be declared? The commercial negotiations could just imply that they've begun discussing the offset clause.

Yes mate thats what I am worried and this has come from the mouth of ACM P.V.Naik itself.

He has gone on record saying that the MMRCA deal will be finalised by September , unless any vendor goes to court throwing a spoke in the wheel.

OUr DPP needs a serious overhaul that once selected, and the AF agrees to it there can be no changes unless the Air force itself agrees to the change.
