Well, you should also consider that Japan has only 1/10th of Chinas population if you are comparing GDP one on one.

yes, you are right, that GDP or PPP in USD are very narrow economic indications, dont mean much, worthless to emphasize on them.
when i say Japanese GDP was passed by China i mean that GDP in usd can not truely show the recently economy changes in China and Japane, twisted by exchange rates.
PCDI, PGDI are the same. if you want to compare one with the other in economy, you have to considre many more factors, but that is none of my business.

When China surpass America technologically and financially, then China can give itself a pat on the back.
Not just that, the whole world counts nominal GDP instead of PPP. Nobody really sonsiders PPP when doing internal comparisms between countries.

China's National Bureau of Statistics has officially said they do not recognize PPP.

The growth of China is indeed a fascinating fact and a model to look up into.
