Italian Secretary General Defense Lieutenant General Nicolo Falsaperna called on Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad on Friday.

As per details, two sides discussed defense cooperation and matters of mutual interest, Radio Pakistan reported.

General Nicolo Falsaperna hailed Pakistan Navy’s efforts for regional peace and stability.

A day earlier, Chief of Staff of the armed forces of Oman Lieutenant General Ahmed Bin Harith called on Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi in Islamabad.

Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi highlighted Pakistan Navy’s role in regional maritime security.

The Chief of Staff of Oman armed forces appreciated the strong relationship between navies of the two countries and reiterated the resolve to further expand it.

Earlier on arrival, the dignitary was presented guard of honour. He laid a wreath at the martyrs’ monument at the Naval Headquarters.

Not sure if the PN will proceed with this program until it clears the Hangor payments first.
It is very important to clear the payments and if they do not have funds, they should negotiate an instalment plan because it does not look good. BTW I like dealing with Italians... they deal like business men .... no political BS attached.

I was referring to the outlay. There's already a payment plan for the Hangor, 054A/P, MILGEM, etc, and that means the PN's money is tied up until a specific date. They'll only make new deals when the payment for old programs is complete or winding up.

Oh I see! thanks for clarifying your previous post. In this case, PN may need govt's approval which may not be granted because of the economic constraints but it may get accommodated in the next budget etc

Yep, if we look at the modernization of the PN it is simply revolutionary, so finances may keep the program on the back burner.

But these subs don't just offer SSGN a major capability, but they are force multipliers for AShW.

An article posted by a Turkish member yesterday on this forum also mentioned mini subs for PN.

If the goal is for a miniature SSK with ASW/AShW, then I think they'll wait after the Hangor SSP. It seems the goal right now is to build the SLOC/EEZ capability first via frigates and SSPs, and then move to strengthening the littoral segment. For littoral, they can look at additional corvettes, FACs, and mini-SSKs.

Or I see a push for AW139 with a depot level MRO facility.
The d-level MRO for the AW139 is already in the books with PAC, they should start building it in the next 1-2 years (direct from PAC itself during IDEAS 2018). However, Leonardo does want to sell AW101s, AW139s and AW159s to the PN, and ensure its place in any future LRMPA program.

That may seems to be the priority interest for current visits. However, I wish that we may continue with SAAB for LRMPA. You surely have some ideas on your mind Sir.

Leonardo would win either way. If the PN went with Saab, Leonardo would still get contracts for the AESA radar and other sensors (Saab picked those for the Swordfish configuration). If the PN went with Leonardo, then Leonardo will choose subsystems from its own products.
