In a major step, Isro on Saturday successfully tested the indigenous cryogenic engine to be used to propel the country's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.

The test was conducted at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district.
"The acceptance test of the indigenous cryogenic engine for the forthcoming GSLV-D5 flight was conducted successfully for 200 seconds at 17:10 hrs...," an Isro statement said.

"The performance of the engine was as predicted," it said.

The maiden flight test of the indigenous cryogenic stage onboard GSLV-D3 failed in May 2010 after it developed a snag and the rocket plunged into the sea minutes after lift-off.

Isro chief K Radhakrishnan had said last month that GSLV would undergo two more tests at the Mahendragiri facility.

He had also said Isro was planning a GSLV launch with Indian cryogenic engine during September-October.

Isro plans to fly two GSLV rockets at an interval of six months with the third one meant for the Chandrayaan-2 moon mission.

I Hope they are successful this time.
BTW As far as I remember previous launch with desi cryo Engine failed on 15 April 2010 not May 2010

You missed this smiley.

what was the reason for 2010 GSLV failure, was it the indegeneous cry engine or some other reason?

it was because of some extra heat sheilding layer that destabilised the rocket, thats what i have heard.

Nice development:tup: Congrats to ISRO scientists!

Looking forward for the September launch of GSLV, and then another launch
six months afterwards, and then the third launch for Chandrayaan-2 that would land
an Indian Lunar Rover on the moon :victory:

The last hot test of cryo engine on ground was also a success, but it malfunctioned in the flight. This hot test on ground is different as it included the cryo's endurance and functioning in simulated vacuum conditions that the engine will face at higher altitudes . Isro recently commissioned vacuum facility.

contrast to the scientists. Keep the good work going,
hope GSLV will have the same record as PSLV.

As far as i know, cryo stage comes only in action when rocket leaves earth environment and is the final stage which pushes Satellite in GTO, But the Rocket blew off before it escaped the environment...

It was destroyed by the Launch Control centre after it deviated from the actual flight path. It did not blew off. There was some problem with the connectors.
