According to Maj Maj Igor Konashenkov, Israel conducted its air attack against Damascus on the night of 25 December with the aid of 6 F-16 fighter jets.

Israeli planes launched 16 GBU-39 missiles, 14 of which were shot down by the Syrian anti-aircraft defense, two of them having achieved their objectives.

The F-16s launched the GBU-39s (GPS-guided) 80 km from the Syrian targets. The reaction of the AcA was delayed because a civilian transport aircraft was at the same time landing procedure at the Damascus airport.

The GBU-39s are American-made small-diameter (SDB: Small Diameter Bombs) GPS-guided bombs.
