Gelfand, Anand tied in 10th round of World Chess Championship
Israeli, Indian chess champions continue to battle for world title; head into Game 11 of series with 4.5-4.5 tie

Israeli chess player Boris Gelfand and his Indian rival and reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand concluded the 10th game in the final round of the Chess World Championship with a draw.

Thursday saw Gelfand settle for a draw after 49 moves, with just under eight minutes left in the second time control. Anand still had five minutes from his first time control, when he offered the draw.

The ninth round of the series, held on Wednesday, saw Gelfand hold against Anand for the overall score of 4.5-4.5.

The two will compete again on Saturday.

Should the 11th round end in a tie, the match will go into Rapids – a "blitz"-type game where each player is given less time to make their moves than under the normal tournament time.

According to Indian media, Anand has never lost a blitz game

Best of luck Vishi.

Actually Anand has been undefeated vs. Gelfand since '92. Gelfand has matured so much in his playing style as of late and in comparison, Anand has given up his aggressive style and decided to avoid taking calculated risks. Before the commencement of this tourney, Anand was touted as the favorite. No one expected Gelfand to upset Anand's prospects.

Kudos to Gelfand for his perseverance and his never say die attitude.

Whatever happened to the Russians and Americans? They used to dominate.
