Yeah Trump is insignificant, the timing is also insignificant. Israel is trying to hide behind US cover with the timing. When it is a unilateral decision it is making. And it doesn't want to absorb the backlash. Out of these 25,000, fifteen of them are due to be built in East Jerusalem, which is recognized by UN and US, Arab world, and international community general as the capital of a future Palestinian state. So these actions are illegal in every sense. And Israel should face sanctions targeting whatever is funding or orchestrating this construction. It would put the settlements to an halt.
In the US and Europe too, many fundraisers are conducted to raise money for the Israeli Gov't to go towards settlements, which should be forbidden. It's hard to take these cases up legally, since simply it will be rejected. Only things that go through are civil matters. Israel would be protected in this case.
The PA so far has made an comment, which is the one in the OP, I haven't seen anything further come out yet. Anyway, for those who don't know, these aren't simply 'homes' built in Israeli territory. They are homes and other infrastructure built on Palestinian territory(West Bank), and they can't house Palestinian Christians or Muslims or atheists. They only house Israeli Jews, or global Jews immigrating to Israel.
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the mother of all conflicts in this region and the root of much trouble. Therefore the entire region should join hands and try to solve this conflict. The wars/conflicts elsewhere in the region makes this more difficult but it should not serve as an excuse.
What is happening is completely unacceptable. This has been going on for FAR too long without the international community doing anything/being able to do anything/willing to do anything. I don't know what to do but something must be done.
Reading such news really pissed me off. As if there were not enough of problems already.
Wars/conflicts are one thing but what Israel and the Zionists have been doing for 70 years is unheard of in the history of this region and there is no reason to downplay it and I don't care how "well" Israel is doing with all its massive support on all fronts, mass-migration from the entire world and other million favors that Palestinians and people from the region can only dream about. It is no feat to oppress people that are weaker than you either. Every bully can do that.
What is worse, don't expect Westerners to relinquish their support for Jews since they are still paying for their sins that they committed against the Jews in WW2. Without this legacy there would be no reason to prefer Jews over Arabs to this extend.
The Muslim leaders are useless/spineless (from hypocrites like Erdogan, Khamenei to docile Arab regimes) so don't count on them. A few Arab regimes tried decades ago against all odds but did not succeed due to the existing ground realities. Previously nobody else tried and afterwards nobody has tried since. Islamists cannot save you either despite really wanting to as the entire world/region/most Muslims would attack them before them ever attempting to attack Israel. I honestly don't see a solution currently. Anyone that ever thinks about seriously attacking Israel will be attacked by the US/entire West.
Israel is the adoptive son/daughter of the West and as long as the adoptive daughter/son is not making too much trouble/noise he will be accepted and supported. Sadly this is the reality and Arabs or Muslims for that matter in our current state and with all the other existing problems can simply not do anything other than nice speeches, economic support, showing solidarity, hosting the largest Palestinian diaspora etc. that should never have ended where it has but remained in its native lands.
It's incredibly hard not to feel solidarity with Palestinians (hence the massive pan-religious and pan-ethnic support that Palestine and Palestinians enjoy across the world) as this could have happened to absolutely everyone in this region with no exception.
In fact I think that the West Bank should be flooded with weapons so locals can defend themselves. If a major conflict needs to erupt before the international community recognizes/wakes up from its sleep and realizes that this Zionist policy (illegal settlements etc.) are making the already lengthy conflict even worse, it might be worth a try but this is very easy to say for me since I am not living in the West Bank nor will I suffer the consequences of such decisions. Nobody outside of the West Bank will.
If some radical Zionist Orthodox Jews were trying to steal the land of others anywhere else in the region they would be met with bullets and rightly so.
Anyway I think that I have said it a few times before but Abbas is a spineless person.
