Israel gets two more German submarines
ISRAEL - 29 SEPTEMBER 2009

JERUSALEM -- Israel has taken delivery of two German submarines ordered four years ago, a military spokesman said on Tuesday.

"We have received two Dolphin-class submarines built in Germany," he said, on condition of anonymity.

The submarines, called U212s, can launch cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads, although when it confirmed the sale in 2006 the German government said the two vessels were not equipped to carry nuclear weapons.

The subs were ordered in 2005 and delivery was initially expected in 2010.

Including the two new ones, Israel has five German submarines -- the most expensive weapon platforms in Israel's arsenal.

Germany, which believes it has a historic responsibility to help Israel because of the mass murder of Jews in World War II, donated the first two submarines after the 1991 Gulf War.

It split the cost of the third with the Jewish state.

According to Jane's Defence Weekly, the U212s are designed for a crew of 35, have a range of 4,500 kilometres (2,810 miles) and can launch cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads.

Israeli media have written that the Dolphin submarine could be key in any attack on arch-foe Iran's controversial nuclear sites.

An Israeli submarine recently used the Suez Canal for the first time in June, escorted by Egyptian navy vessels, in what Israeli media said was intended as a message to Iran.

Widely considered the Middle East's sole if undeclared nuclear power, Israel suspects Iran of trying to develop atomic weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear programme, a charge Tehran denies.

U212 has classified technologies and is more stealthier than U214 as U214 is the export version...however....U214 in Pak-india context...is lethal

guys...I don't think Israel has been given the u-212 - they have been given the dolphin class...which is still very advanced, however I don't think it's as potent as the u-212.

Not an easy cake walk.. India upgrading its all Type- 209's with same components of the 214.

Yes, Israel's fate can be sealed forever, but the Muslims need first to educate themselves and learn the technology with which the westerners have become economicaly and militarily strong. But, are we ready yet?

the guys who build the subs had fore fathers that "you know what" during ww2 . Hmmm Israel will sell its soul, to control the world even if they have to Chrystal clean their arch enemies behinds to achieve such goals, with their tongues

Israel has already show that it is capable of striking Tehran with planes or Nuclear ICMB and with the US backing her its much more than enough to wipe out (God forbid - but you know them) Iran. Remember Israel single handly defeated 3 nation in 6 days. Now its requiring new high tech subs ?

Its becoming very clear why Israel harbours these killing machines and the truth is getting clearer by the day -its nothing to do with Israel protecting Jewish people its about controlling Muslim people. Further more if Israel really wanted to stop Iran requiring Nukes then :
1) It has to stop killing both Palestine and Lebanese people and resure its neighbours that it won't attack them.

2) Give up its 200+ nukes

3) co-exists with palistine and stop this holocaust they have committed.

Only then will it all end, but Israel is not interested with peace, but to cause War suffering and destruction as it intend to be. Think about it if Iran does give up its nukes you think Isreal going to stop ? HELL NO ! The country still has ambition for greater Israel.

Its neither U-212 nor U-214.

They are upgraded Dolphins and are going to feature an Air-independent propulsion system, similar to the one used on type 214 submarines.

This makes 5 of them in the Israel Navy. 3 old Dolhpins and 2 New upgraded one's.

The lethality of any submarine in the PN's arsenal is very doubtful given the induction of the P-8I by the IN in the near future.

and to add, the U214 deal has not yet been signed while the ink id already dry on the P-8I deal with the induction timeframe also being announced.

We are in the SSBN league now and in a few years they will be fully operational.

P8I, P3C and other similar platforms are not very effective against subs. There best chance of catching a submarine is when it emerges from the waters to recharge its batteries.

Subs would remain to be lethal whether with PN or IN.
