The Iron Dome is useless against an NK type artillery force. The only effective solution is JDAM that bombs the point of attack origin. NK is no Hezbollah/Hamas.

The Iron Dome was only mentioned as a specific offset trade, not because Korea actually needed it.

Artillery is useless at ranges over 30 km. Iron Dome can intercept rockets with range up to 70 km, it can protect sensitife facasilities like chemical industries. Furthmore the main component of Iron Dome is excellent artillery radar, which calculates location of enemy artillery and helps to destroy it.

T-50's only realistic competitors are US-developed models from Boeing and Northrop.

As I said long range rockets are not in big numbers, they also have bad accuracy. But even one such rocket falling on some chemical plant can cause very serious damage. So its better to protect them.

Korea has a history of buying weapons it didn't need to close the deal it wanted. Like T-80 tanks, BMP-3, and Ilyushin Il-103 from Russia(KA-32 also was initially unwanted, but has since found a liking for it) to get tech transfers, CN-235 from Indonesia(Korea has piles of CN-235 because Korea bought some every time it sold weapons to Indonesia), etc. There is also a discussion to buy T-129 attack helicopter from Turkey to appease Turks in order to seal the deal on the KFX.

Korea was fully ready to buy the Iron Dome and other Israeli weapons didn't have an immediate need for in order to close the T-50 deal. Stopping the brute firepower of the NK artillery with the Iron Dome? Who would think of such a thing? At least not Koreans.
