Israel attempts to stop S-300 air defense supplies to Iran

The fact is Isreali Jets dont have any other thing in responce to S-300 missiles that is why they are worried. This could neutralize almost any IAF infiltration.
All air defense system have weaknesses. For radar, it is coverage and gaps can be created by terrain or ECM, for example.

According to public information...

S-300PMU SA-10 GRUMBLE - Russia / Soviet Nuclear Forces
Missile guidance is of the Track-Via-Missile (TVM) type with the FLAP LID guidance radar capable of engaging up to six targets simultaneously, with two missiles assigned per target to ensure a high kill probability. Maximum target velocity is stated as 4200 km/h with the battery capable of firing three missiles per second.
Here is the scoop on TVM guidance...

Look at the advantages and disadvantages.

My opinion? It is preferable to have the missile be as autonomous as possible,. Make the missile perform its own target tracking and targeting the moment it crosses the %50 launcher-target distance threshold, meaning the missile should be on its own when it is halfway to the target. Yes, this capability would make the missile more complex and costly, but losing the battle and finally the war is even costlier.

Take this 'advantage' of a TVM guidance system...
Typically, the target will be aware that it is being illuminated by the SAM radar, but it will not know for certain if it has been engaged. Modern phased-array radars, by virtue of their thin beams and low side lobes make detection by the aircraft even more difficult.
So what happened here is the cost of missile complexity is transferred to launcher radar complexity in using the more sophisticate and costlier phase array system. Any real savings there? Perhaps. But at the cost of making the missile totally dependent on the launcher for everything, from detection, to tracking and to targeting. Too many vulnerabilities in that path. Is the risk of losing the target, possibly a vital facility, possibly a battle, and finally possibly the war itself, worth a cheaper missile?

I will clarify that statement a bit.

If the attacking aircraft is approaching you, the launcher-target distance would be decreasing. In having a sophisticated missile acquiring and hunting the target on its own in as short a time as possible due to closing distance would leave you opportunities to refocus on other targets or to remove yourself from imminent danger.

If the aircraft is moving away from you, then the launcher-target distance would be increasing. Two possibilities:

1- The enemy have just slipped past you and is on his way to that nuclear facility that your president just happened to stop by and do a surprise inspection. In this possibility, there is still a chance that other missile battery will intercept the enemy before something very bad happen. So a sophisticate missile is obviously a plus.

2- The enemy have just bombed that nuclear facility, set you back a few years and killed your president in the same attack. Now he is trying to escape and toast his champagne.

Either way, he achieved his objective -- getting past YOU -- and the only thing you can do is try to exact vengeance. In this case, having the missile be independent at the %50 launcher-target distance threshold at the same time that this distance is increasing is still a good thing as the missile will not be depending on you at that point compared to a TVM guidance system, leaving you some time to prepare your fate because the enemy managed to get by you. For possibility 2, if your missile managed to destroy the escaping aircraft, may be your superior will take that consolation prize and spare your family, but not you, from execution.

See why the more sophisticate missile is always the better deal?

India is deploying 6 batteries of a late 1990S VERSION of the S300

there 48 missles per battery and it cost india $1 billion

The S-300PMU-2 Favorite (Russian C-300ПМУ-2 Фаворит – Favourite, DoD designation SA-20B), introduced in 1997, is an upgrade to the S-300PMU-1 with range extended once again to 195 km (121 mi) with the introduction of the 48N6E2 missile. This system is apparently capable against not just short range ballistic missiles, but now also medium range tactical ballistic missiles. It uses the 83M6E2 command and control system, consisting of the 54K6E2 command post vehicle and the 64N6E2 surveillance/detection radar. It employs the 30N6E2 fire control/illumination and guidance radar. Like the S-300PMU-1, 12 TELs can be controlled, with any mix of 5P85SE2 self propelled and 5P85TE2 trailer launchers. Optionally it can make use of the 96L6E all altitude detection radar and 76N6 low altitude detection radar, just like the S-300PMU-1.[3]

Huuum, for every measure there is or will be a counter measure. So if Iran obtains this system something will be developed to defeat it or at least reduces it's abilitity as an effective weapon.

Look at it this way...There is statistically nothing regarding radar guided weapons system that there is no known countermeasure. In other words, taken individually, every radar tactic, from freq agility to networking, has a countermeasure. Sometimes there may not be a countermeasure but there are certain inherent limitations, such as line-of-sight, or in the case of wired networking different radar stations, purity of the copper wires from oxygen is important for signal correlations between the stations. The problem for the weapon and its opponent lies incorporating all these disparate functions and countermeasures into a single coherent functioning entity. The most efficient is the winner.
