What's new

Is secularisation of Pakistan possible?

. .
Express Tribune as a valid source? Since when? They've reported PTI breaking up 10 times, PML-N breaking up 4-5 times and also MQM breaking into many factions many times. Guess what, neither of these have happened

Do you know the difference between news and views? Stop jerking off before you figure out what's going on.

It's the view of a famous Pakistani author, a learned man, if you like. You probably have not read his books, but thousands of people around the world have, and think highly of Pakistan by association with him.

The clause just below the head you have quoted, by some remarkable coincidence, contains section 2(1). It reads as follows

.....

hahah. So the document says:

Here is the raaj area. Part of it will be dominion of India.
and part of it will be dominion of Pakistan.

Section 3 and 4 that you conveniently ignored, simply define which parts will be Pakistan.

Severe case of reading comprehension for you my dear.

OK. Let me help you.

You think British raaj as a Pizza pie.

The independence act is saying.

Pizza pieces xyz will be dominion of Pakistan. The remaining pieces of the raaj will be dominion of India.

But your 3rd grade sarkari school book will insist that you are the browns who are true inheritors of British raaj. While the other browns across the border cannot be.

Strange logic on your part.

p.s. Indians says they got freedom on August 15th. But Lord Batton was still mounting Dilli. What a freedom.

.
..... jerking off .....

You sure are Joe. This is what you are doing on a Pakistani forum. Frustrated Indian lot.

I guess some Indians lose all decensy whey they deal with fellow brownies. Oh when it comes to white master, they are all bent over. shaking head sideways. hahah

Ok we don't have stellar record on minority treatment. But have you been to Pakistan? Can you afford an air ticket. If not get a train or bus ride and go over. Or at least stand at the border and look across.

You will not find crosses set up loaded with minority corpses.

Sure we have criminal elements who exploit the weak, but India is not angel in this department.

Proving on every point that Indian is mightier than Pakistan is fruitless exercise and it belittles India.

Grow up. Will ya.

peace.

Assumptions are so easy to make.
Also, being learned or having published a couple of books does not mean that you are always right. Also, I'm assuming you haven't read his books.

Ummm.........not worth the bandwidth containing it.

Too much Fauj, too little History!

But in time, even you may grow up; who knows?

Jinnah died within months of independence. His successors were pygmies next to him; they could not help bickering among themselves and cutting each other down to size. They were also faced with a different dynamic - two blocs instead of one. What Jinnah had feared, the majoritarian domination of the nation, actually happened. It would have broken his heart if he had lived to see what happened. Instead of the Hindus dominating the others, in his Pakistan, it was the west that dominated the east.

This, too, happened because his successors centralized the country instead of Jinnah's notion of decentralizing the centre, and treated the central, "national" government and the western bloc as the same! I believe that he himself would have worked for autonomous west Pakistan, autonomous Bangla bloc, and a central government handling only three things, defence, foreign relations and communications. Further, because of the scandalous way the leadership treated each other, a fear of democracy arose which never went away.

A preliminary response; very early in the day.

It would be funny to claim if he did not see this happening,

The same guy who did Direct Action Day did not foresee this?

Probably his intellect sparkled once in a while, like a flash of lightning.

Here are some facts you,

Direct action was in 1946 and that even in Muslim minority area. While Jinnah was in politics from early 1900s. So in 50 years, you pick up one incidence and blame it on him?

FYI! None of the Muslim majority areas saw big time riots by league in the Muslim majority areas.

Whatever happened in Kolkata was local Bengali issue, and then it was used for killing 1000s of Bihari Muslims.

Common dear. Get out of 3rd grade sarkari school History books.

peace.,

I imagine any decisive movement towards secularization will be met with violence from militant religious groups. Are there any secularists left who are willing to risk their lives for their vision of Pakistan?

.
hahah. So the document says:

Here is the raaj area. Part of it will be dominion of India.
and part of it will be dominion of Pakistan.

It does not.

Since your knowledge of English is visibly at a Fauji level and not an historian's, let me remind you that the wording is that this is India and it will be independent India, except that part of it defined as Pakistan.

It is there for all to see, and so is your inept conclusion.

Section 3 and 4 that you conveniently ignored, simply define which parts will be Pakistan.

What was there to ignore? The point that India was given independence as India, but for Pakistan, which was defined below, is already made.

I have nothing to say about Pakistan's make-up, after all.
Severe case of reading comprehension for you my dear.

OK. Let me help you.

You think British raaj as a Pizza pie.

No, I think of the British colony as one entity, which went forward in history as independent, but for a section that was separated out as a separate nation.

The independence act is saying.

Pizza pieces xyz will be dominion of Pakistan. The remaining pieces of the raaj will be dominion of India.

The document doesn't say so. It says in clause 2(1) that India should be independent,
except the territories which, under subsection (2) of this section, are to be the territories of Pakistan.

But your 3rd grade sarkari school book will insist that you are the browns who are true inheritors of British raaj. While the other browns across the border cannot be.

Strange logic on your part.

Sadly for your argument, it was the statute and the wording of the British, your masters as much as ours, which said so.

p.s. Indians says they got freedom on August 15th. But Lord Batton was still mounting Dilli. What a freedom.

Who was Lord Batton? And what does 'mounting' Delhi mean?

All this disorientation from a single can of Joe's Whoop@ss?

Pakistan's current issues are being hijacked by slogans like secularism and Islamism (read Islamo-fascism). In reality we just need to get along (famous saying by none other than R King).

The more we emphasize on secularism that no one really understands, we ought to emphasize on tolerance, truth, and trustworthiness. Once we achieve these fundamental traits and a humane society, people can put any label on it.

Our problem is that we don't talk about fundamental values and instead rely on slogans. And sadly secularism is just another slogan in the hand of lefties, just like Jihad is a petty and pathetic slogan in the hand of Islamists.

Probably his intellect sparkled once in a while, like a flash of lightning.

You mean that 66 years later, either I must claim to know his mental capacity, or we must accept that you, some unknown anonymous poster on a defence forum of uncertain background and unknown track record, will be entitled to sit on judgement on one of the most brilliant barristers of his day, a politician who enjoyed the confidence of Gokhale and the entire Congress before the advent of Gandhi, and the most redoubtable opponent that the British admitted facing?

I can't say about your intellect - it has not been on display so far - but his was much admired.
