What's new

Is Saudi Arabia interested in the F-35?

The F-15SA is downgraded   nice joke buddy, don't do t again.

They might not be downgraded but he has a point. At the end of the official press release of all Foreign Military Sales contracts to the Middle East, it always mentions that the sale will not affect Israeli qualitative superiority.

And how would you know that Saudis training is inferior to Israelis and Turks? Their records speak for themselves with Iraq and Iran, as well as Huthies war. Neither TAF nor IAF conduct as many drills as RSAF with several countries. I think the three countries have the highest level of training. Well, IAF has much more experience no doubt though. And yes RSAF is superior to TAF, easily.

When it's based on facts, it's not nationalism.

Lol you speak like the other turkish guy who bring Turkey into it pure BS. How is RSAF superior to Turkish airforce? If you mean equipment wise yes they have better air to air fighters mainly F15, but currently only like 20 typhoons and like I think 84 F15. Currently they are not superior in terms of equipment with these numbers, they are superior to F16 but we have 240 F16 which are very good in dog fights and can be even hard for the F15 at times. I know they getting more F15 and typhoon but I'm Talking about current number if they are correct. We will be ordering a large number of (110+) F35s as well as well as having a twin engine fighter (2020+)

Also if we talk about training and stuff we host the Anatolia eagle, participate in red flag and many other things every year. Turkish Air force was only one of the few airforce to do night operations in Kosova and we also have many other real life experiences.

Im not saying any is superior to the other and I don't want to compare TAF to RSAF as they are friendly forces and conduct training together.

Sorry just a little correction, currently at the moment of this post being written we have 30 Typhoons, 84 F-15 Cs,Ds, 70 F-15S, 87 Tornado GR4 and 26 Special missions F-5s.

@Mosamania

What would happen to your F-15 C/D after F-15 SA are completely delivered?

Oh sorry the 84 in my mind was the F-15C/Ds then. Doesn't change anything if you have 600 F15 Tbh because we don't perceive SA as threat or rival or enemy so for me the more you have the better as I can't see any harm coming now or in the future. Also these stupid comparisons are usually BS because it depends on so many factors.

I think they still have some life in em. But I don't know really.

156 F-15SA + 84 F-15C,Ds is 240 F-15s. That a bit too many F-15s if you ask me.

Yep, which is why I am not comparing I am just informing you on the current equipment of the RSAF that's all buddy.

I know I wasn't mentioning you but the others who started this. I'm Suprised why Saudi Airforce is going for mainly air superiority fighters constantly though. Is Tornado for ground roles? Also is the air defence PAC3?

Keep them, they are not too many for a country like Saudi Arabia, always targeted. Plus, how weird of a country to phase out F-15 of any version? If they are going to be phased out, RSAF fleets quantity will be almost the same for 2 decades and more for who knows how long. If you tell me quality is way better, then it's not like regional countries aren't doing the same by modernizing theirs.

The Tornado GR4 has a payload of 9 tonnes, it is a bomb truck through and through. The F-15S and F-15SA are variants of the F-15E. So those are mainly Air-Ground fighters. The Typhoon and F-15Cs are air-superiority fighters of the highest order (Typhoon is multi-role too). So we have a good mix if you ask me.

And yes our air defense is currently being upgraded to PAC3.

You guys get soo caught up on things. Why the hell does it matter that someone started this blah blah blah. I know you mean me, buzz off.

I'm just saying. If having a better airforce came down to buying 200 hundred cheap fighters (Yes, fighter planes ARE CHEAP COMPARED TO THE OTHER CRAP GOVERNMENTS BUY) then everyone would be buying F-15s like mad. Don't discount countries because of equipment that isn't completely black and white. Israel would kick the RSAFs ***, plain and simple.

In summary, all I'm saying is don't just list the planes you have. With KSAs military budget they should be a top 10 military in the world but they're not. Why? Because your toys aren't everything. Saudi Arabia is spending so much money so that they can catch up not to get ahead. I hope they keep this up.

KSA most likely won't and should not buy such a disastrous hyped up AC. Eurofighters would fit their doctrine just fine IMO.

You make good points but it doesn't happen overnight. And I don't know where these comparisons came about. I believe it started when someone mentioned that they won't have a use for a fifth generation fighter because they can't fly them.

I'm speaking future wise, after 7 years for example, when we expect the quality of pilots to increase for the RSAF. Would they have an interest in this as multirole fighter?

What you should also count in is the billions KSA can get in F-35 subcontracts like Turkey for example. Before the purchased one fighter jet they received billions in subcontracts and it will increase to a dozen billions by the time their order is completed.

So if people don't see it as the right bargain for KSA, even which it still needs approval to go to an arabic nation, such as the UAE which has shown interest but needs approval still.

What do people believe KSA should invest in? PAK-FA project? And why so?

I also wonder what the response to fifth generation fighter jets would be? In terms of ground to air defense systems?
