More ignorance.

Kargil was recaptured from the Gilgit Scouts in 1948. There was nothing affecting Kargil in 1971.

How can you possibly walk around with such baggage?

As for the rhodomontade,

He stopped responding :sarcastic:

Good to see you back in good health sir.

Rhodomontade:smitten:
You and shahi tharoor are going to be exclusively responsible for improving many a vocabularies.

I do wish that he WOULD respond; that would indicate some degree of engagement.

Shashi Baba and my fellow-student, Dr. Kalyan Chatterjee, presently Professor Emeritus at Pennsylvania State University, and I, we two on behalf of Presidency, the great man on behalf of our famed missionary college, St. Stephens, debated on several occasions in the late 60s. Kalyan's logic was magisterial; Shashi's language was even then its present immaculate self, while I skirmished on the fringes of their battles.

There are very fine minds on PDF, although their voices are overwhelmed by the fidayeen, the green chaddis. Although I am not very well, it is to hold discourse with those minds that I come back whenever I can.

The sad part is, running away from discourse won't help him improve his narrative, he'd be forever beholden to the manipulation of history by state textbooks, the same as many posters from our side.

There are a few fine pakistani minds here, who've helped me realise the complexity of our seperation and all the issues that cropped up along with it. It's rarely black and white.

You're acquainted with sashi tharoor?:o: I made that remark in jest.

All I can say is that I didn't run away, and if you were to trace my posts in past years, I have never run away from an honest discussion. The most memorable instance being analysing the roots of the Indo-China conflict with my Chinese friend Chauism, where he was astonished to find an acceptance of mistakes made by India.

As far as his mistakes are concerned, they are egregious, and I doubt strongly that any textbook could have informed him that Kargil belonged to Pakistan until 1971, and was seized and never returned thereafter. Of course, it is quite possible that some of us don't recognise the difference between Kargil the town, the second town in Baltistan, and Kargil the geographical area that was sought to be taken over by Pakistani troops. In both cases, he would be wrong, and it is a matter of constant astonishment that people should hold such bizarre views.

Shashi? Yes, we debated against each other, but I doubt that he would recognise me; it's been fifty-five years, after all. My father acquired a flat at 57/15, Ballygunge Circular Road; his first father-in-law, the ADC to the Governor who married the Governor's beautiful daughter, lived at 57/14. The daughter in question was not merely beautiful, but one of the best debaters of our times, and married Shashi; his children are from that marriage.
