What's new

Is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan better than Lata Mangeshkar?

Nothing special,,,no depth and no expressions too in voice...

I know this is blasphemy, but I like A.R. Rahman as a playback singer if you want to compare playback singers.

The guy was ahead of his time.

I am biased, because so many Tamil songs that were part of my childhood was made by him.

again, I am aware A.R. Rahman composed completely peppy, commercial film songs.

AR is just average............technically speaking
Plus slumdog oscars were undeserved

Lata is just a playback singer, a damn good one but still a playback singer. I doubt if she is even sing any of NFAK song.
nothing to take away from Lata she is great in her own game

Both different type of singers and unique in their own way. I don't think anyone can come close to the Sufi songs sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan marhoom.

agree with the latter, but disagree with the former. Every South Indian who had their childhood in the 1990's will agree with me he is not average.

Let's drop it before South secedes from India over this.

@he-man I am embarrassed to say this, but i can't remember a single great singer of carnatic music

I have heated debates with my father over this issue. He thinks Lata is the best.I try to convince him abot NFAK by playing his qawwallis but to no avail. :-(

Not that it is a parameter of any sort, but NFAK had more 'Western' accepability.I mean those collaborations he had with Western composers.

U think any good punjabi singer is left on our side of punjab??
Heck nothing is there now

.
Nusrat-Singer for singers, Master of masters
Lata-Singer for common man,Master of Public

Lata can not match Sufi singing of Nusrat
in same way , Nusrat can not match Melodious and god gifted voice of Lata.
