bu Omar al-Shishani, a high ranking Isis commander, has been confirmed as dead by pro-Isis propaganda outlets.

The Chechen-born, hugely popular 'minister of war' was killed in fighting close the the beleaguered Iraqi city of Mosul.

His death - purportedly at the hands of the US - was falsely reported in the past but the claim is now being supported by a number of analysts and pro-Isis social media accounts. However,The Independent has not been able to verify the information

Isis media outlet Amaq announced the news on Wednesday evening, saying al-Shishani was killed in combat in the Iraqi city of Shirqat, south of Mosul.

Shishani, also known as Omar the Chechen, ranked among America's most wanted militants under a US programme that offered up to $5 million for information to help remove him from the battlefield.

Born in 1986 in Georgia, then still part of the Soviet Union, the red-bearded Shishani had a reputation as a close military adviser to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was said by followers to have relied heavily on Shishani.

In March, the Pentagon said Shishani had likely been killed in a U.S. air strike in Syria.

You're wrong, you underestimate this figure.

He was a Sgt in the Georgian army and trained by the US special forces. It's a big blow to them, not just morale but IS units in Shirqat just lost their most prominent commander, this is their last major defence line from Mosul and they put their best commander there, who just died by the ISF. Abu waheeb was little compared to him, they can't replace him.

After finishing high school, Batirashvili joined the Georgian Army and distinguished himself as master of various weaponry and maps, according to his former commander Malkhaz Topuria, who recruited him into a special reconnaissance group.[3] His unit was trained by US special forces, and Batirashvili was reportedly a "star pupil".[19] He rose to the rank of sergeant in a newly formed intelligence unit, and during the 2008 Russo-Georgian War he served near the front line in the Battle of Tskhinvali, spying on Russian tank columns and relaying their coordinates to Georgian artillery units.[3] Batirashvili's unit inflicted serious damage on the Russians, and among the actions they participated in was an attack on a column of the Russian 58th Army during which the commander of the 58th Army, General Anatoly Khrulyov, was wounded.[19]

He was a Sgt in the Georgian army and trained by the US special forces. Used to be with Nusra in Syria and lead many battles, eventually joined IS. It's a big blow to them, not just morale but IS units in Shirqat just lost their most prominent commander, this is their last major defence line from Mosul and they put their best commander there, who just died by the ISF. Thanks for the information...I hope all these organizations end one day...

This guy fought alongside FSA shoulder to shoulder in 2013, back then ISIS and FSA were cool teammates until they started fighting each other for land and money.

Conclusion? All the 'revolutionaries', moderate or not are basically the same shit as ISIS in essence.

Good hunting by Iraqi forces, it is the biggest blow to Daesh since 2014 in terms of commander's losses.

It's actually confirmed by Daesh itself.
