I love that word in the article. It describes the Indian media to a T.

For 60 years, they have been using Pakistan as a punching bag, a scapegoat to drum up jingoistic fervor. Now they tried it against China, and got a rude awakening slap in the face.

The Indian media is like a spoilt, unruly child. The parents have pampared it for too long, and every once in a while it will go and do something terminally embarrasing, causing the parents to apologetically try and rescue the situation.

The private media of India really came up only during the last 5 or at worst 10 years. Before that Doordarshan and AIR had the best journalistic practices. By saying it 60 years, are you trying to play the victim card in the eyes of Indians? Or as vsdoc said, you are confusing armed forces with media. I dont know. Whatever it is you can blame only the private media for the bad name with regards to jingoism. Nor is it like all the private media is like that. 'The Hindu' and 'India Today' are some examples. Some like Tehelka are adventurous too.

I will take whatever Javed Naqvi says about India's smallness. They are for Indian babus and Indians in general to look back, think what is wrong with themselves and improve upon them.
Not for some people with mud ready in hands. They are absolutely justified in throwing it in Indians' face when they see articles like this. It is just a side-effect of a good medicine. I would take that for whatever good it does.

Also you seem to be deliberatly avoiding my point regarding the Chinese. Similar "small" comments by Chinese regarding their weaker neighbours are not seen in the same light by you or your compatriots. Any reason for that?

The rest are bumbling fools who keep fingering the masses with their stupid welfare schemes like free TVs and low food prices. Never mind that the farmers are starving because of the same low food prices.

What India needs is a Chinese-style government that doesn't give a damn about the whims and fancies of illiterates and does some real work to improve the quality of Indians and India.

What a rubbish article. And Muse, what rubbish points as well. You DO KNOW that India has friendly relations with most of its neighbours. YOU also don't seem to make the same comments regarding your own jingoistic compatriots or jingoistic Chinese. Infact, you seem quite inclined to support juvenile statements by Chinese by waving the Chinese flag in support.

The fact is that India's neighbours like to drag up issues with India in order to fool their stupid masses into voting for them. Nothing less and nothing more. The sooner India's hostile neighbours recognize the fact of India's primacy in the region, the sooner we can have peace.

Please let us know about the proof regarding India interfering in Afganistan. I repeat there is NO proof of any suspected activity by India yet you just keep shouting.

As the article is concerned, I stopped reading when it says that India has uncomfortable relation with almost all its neighbours and some Hindu Nepal, Buddhist Sri Lanka etc. rant. Sorry guys..I might be mentally challenged to read and complete it.

And on what parameters India is behaving small? No one can deny our power/status is increasing globally. Be it economically, militarily, politically or any other area. We are respected in all world forums/bodies/institutions and by almost all countries including all big powers. But ofcourse you would purposely deny these fact to suit your false logic.
Yes we know we have problem, we are working on it. And I think you would agree with me that India has progressed and living standard of common Indian has improved with the time. We are alleged for implemeting a "neo-con" policies (as mentioned in article) and still we are saying we are workling on identifying our problem and removing it. Now who is behaving small here. The entire premise of this three page discussion by our esteemed Pakistani members is on the assumption that India does not have good relations with any of its neighbors.

Instead of actually researching the facts behind this assumption, we have had nothing more than the usual standard anti-Indian vitriol we see sometimes on this board.

Facts - India does not have bad relations with all it's neighbours. Our problems lie with China and Pakistan only. Despite what some Bangladeshi posters on here (curiously living in the US) seem to believe, Bangladesh is a friendly country. So is Nepal. Sri Lanka. Maldives. and Mauritius. And we have some sort of military pact with Bhutan as well.

I usually don't comment on this India thing, but yesterday I had an opportunity to interact with some posters on a thread :"China intrudes into XYz" - and I was quite taken back by the "bring it on" attitudes I was reading; I pointed out that India seem to have unfriendly relations with all it's neighbors and that possibly a more robust diplomatic effort was called for -- to my suprise, the response was that India's neighbors are jealous of it - it was as if all the education, all the polish, was left behind for a emotionally satisfying and ultimately silly rationale.

Readers who will be more interested may do a search for a thread :"What does Indian mean" or some such and you will discover a very similar idea to the one the author has pointed to, that is say, a paucity of visionary ideas.
