Is communism really evil?

The ideology took hold in majority of the world, could not keep up and ultimately collapsed. No need to argue on it more. It had its chance.

And if someone says soviet union or old vietnam or Mao era china were not true communists. He is the most arrogant and narcassist person. He claims he knows communism better then those who devoted there whole lives families wealth for the cause of communism. He says he knows communism better then Lenin, Trotsky, Mao, Stalin, even Marx.
They knew Communism well. There efforts made communism the most powerfull force on earth. It didnt just work at the end. Case closed.

I agree but you don't want to leave every field to the state either, it would become a bureaucratic and ineffective nightmare with no competition. Without competition there is no evolution or improvement. Things tend to stagnate. Who is going to raise the level if there is no competitor?

Say you are a restaurant and you have complete monopoly and always customers, what is your initiative to raise the level of your food if you know, that you will never have a competitor? It is zero.

I strongly disagree with state monopolies other than army, police and basic utilities. Even the utility part I find redundant.

Why would you prefer state monopoly in for instance healthcare or education?

Let us say that you are sick with cancer, in such a case, your only option is the public hospitals. What if they are in a bad shape or you have to wait a long time? Would a private alternative, often better and more effective (if you have the money of course) not be much more preferred?

Similar logic when it comes to private education (private schools).

There should always (ideally) be at least 2 alternatives. I believe that wealthy states should subsidy people who cannot afford private healthcare for instance if waiting lists are long in public hospitals etc. like in many countries.

IT should be private. But certain domain such as epayment should go to state (this is where eRMB is about).

Water should be state. Why should people pay rent to Water companies. They sit there do nothing.

Railway, metro should be government.

Healthcare should be hybrid but skewed towards government.

Schools should be public. Rich people can look for enrichment outside.

My opinion is that should be a public and private alternative everywhere except for the military, police, intelligence service (basically state institutions that deal with the security of the state), judiciary (obviously) and political system (there should not be a shadow government behind the real one - no deep state tied to business interests like in the US) and basic services like water.

Public transport should ideally be free.

Healthcare should first and foremost be public because this is the backbone but private alternative should be widely available. If poor people cannot afford private alternatives, the state should subsidy them.

Education should be private as well, I disagree with state monopoly on education. Recipe for totalitarianism and one-sided thinking. Not only that, you happen to live in a shitty neighborhood with low standard schools and teachers, you should be able to have alternatives if you want your children to have a better education.

Just like there is academic competition between pupils, so should there be competition between public and private education. Of course private education should follow similar curriculums and overall have a similar profile.

When education is public there will be elite public schools.

The hardworking poor guy will always be priced out of elite private schools. Living in shtty neighbourhood meaning you are poor, you only want low cost elite public school.

USSR created the first so called "communist" country and some countries copied and followed their style of "communism" and they all largely failed, communism doesn't fail, USSR failed, it was a fake communist country which went against many fundamental communist principles. Now people just judge communism based on the failed USSR metrics, this is what intentionally being mislead by the west. Chinese communism is way more closer to true communist principles than USSR ever was.

Anyway if you ask me, the best system is meritocracy, but it will never work in a democracy because no sane person that is the best qualified economist or jurist would prefer to work in politics when he can earn 5-10 times the money in the private sector for the same job without all the pressure, publicity, responsibility etc. that political service usually is.

I agree. In Singapore the top civil/political positions are benchmarked against the top 1000 employee earners in the private sector to attract talent. I have no idea why in most other countries the top civil/political positions are relatively so low paid when their signature can involve millions or even billions of dollars in public funds.

The benchmark for an entry-level minister is based on the median income of the top 1,000 Singapore citizen earners, with a 40 per cent "discount" to reflect the "ethos of political service", according to the Public Service Division's website.

Salaries of other political office holders are determined based on ratios to the pay of an entry-level minister, and their different roles and responsibilities. The prime minister, for instance, earns twice the salary of an entry-level minister.

"The salaries of political appointment holders will be adjusted according to the movement of the benchmark as it responds to market conditions," said PSD.

In 2018, the Government decided not to make any changes to political salaries, since the economy was still in transition. It also indicated then that it would review the matter again after five years, or when it becomes necessary.

"The next political salaries review is targeted for 2023, and we will share more details in due course," said Mr Chan on Tuesday.

According to PSD, as of 2023, the benchmark level of a minister's monthly salary stands at S$55,000, working out to an annual salary of S$1.1 million.

In 2018, an independent committee chaired by Dr Gerard Ee recommended an upward annual adjustment to match annual benchmark movements of 9 per cent since 2011.

It suggested setting the annual salary for an entry-level minister at S$1.2 million. This figure includes a 13th-month bonus, three-month performance bonus and National Bonus paid out if indicators are met.

Yes, classical communism is, but the Chinese hybrid capitalo-communist/socialist model seems to work, at least for them. Not sure anyone has been able, or even tried to replicate it. They have all manner of private enterprise, a stock market, they even have Casinos... and people can own stuff as far as I know.

A quick google helped me find this, Indian (or at least Indian origin) guy explains: https://www.quora.com/How-does-home...-happens-when-the-government-seizes-your-land

Soviet communism, otoh.. and today's DPRK's "Stalinist" version.. that kshit was and is utterly disgusting.

One has to have truly given up on life and tapped out to want a government that basically changes your nappies for you. People work hard to buy land, property and houses.. should be up to them to decide what happens when they're gone.. give it to the kids/family, sell it and donate it all to charity, or anything else.

Communism is highly aligned with imperial Chinese system.

The Chinese has tradition of breaking up big business and superstitious.

the chinese model somewhat works, as it isnt a strict adherence to traditional communism. But id rather have a free market opposed to one entirely controlled by government.

People wrongly perceive communism as Leninism or Stalinism.

Lenismism despite of various shortcoming, is a necessary during revolution era.

in essence it is as it is purely materialsitic ideology depriving humans from their intrinistic strives and values,

on the other hand as any world ideology it has some merits in general social justice, so part of it are compatiible with some other more sensical ideologies.

Communism analysis of economy is far more logical than free market capitalism.

13. Elder Aristocles of Moscow (+1918):

"An evil will shortly take Russia, and wherever this evil goes, rivers of blood will flow. It is not the Russian soul, but an imposition on the Russian soul. It is not an ideology, nor a philosophy, but a spirit from hell. In the last days Germany will be divided. France will be just nothing. Italy will be judged by natural disasters. Britain will lose her empire and all her colonies and will come to almost total ruin, but will be saved by praying enthroned women. America will feed the world, but will finally collapse. Russia and China will destroy each other. Finally, Russia will be free and from her believers will go forth and turn many from the nations to God."[10]

7. St. Seraphim of Sarov (+1833):

"There will one day be a Tsar who will glorify me [Nicholas II glorified St. Seraphim in 1903], after which there will be a great disturbance in Russia, much blood will flow because they will rise up against this Tsar and autocracy, but God will magnify the Tsar."

"More than half a century will pass. Then evildoers will raise their heads high. This will happen without fail: the Lord, seeing the impenitent evil of their hearts, will allow their enterprises for a short time. But their sickness will rebound upon their own heads, and the unrighteousness of their destructive plots will fall upon them. The Russian land will become red with rivers of blood...

"Before the birth of the Antichrist there will be a great, protracted war and a terrible revolution in Russia passing all bounds of human imagination, for the bloodletting will be most terrible: the rebellions of Ryazan, Pugachev and the French revolution will be nothing in comparison with what will take place in Russia. Many people who are faithful to the fatherland will perish, church property and the monasteries will be robbed; the Lord's churches will be desecrated; good people will be robbed of their riches and killed, rivers of Russian blood will flow... But the Lord will have mercy on Russia and will bring her along the path of great sufferings to glory."

2. Another Anonymous Prophecy from St. Sabbas' Monastery (8th or 9th century):

"At various times this great people [the Russians] will fall into sin and for this will be chastised through considerable trials. In about a thousand years [i.e. in the 1900s] this people, chosen by God, will falter in its Faith and its standing for the Truth of Christ. It will become proud of its earthly might and glory, will cease to seek the Kingdom and will want paradise not in Heaven but on this sinful earth.

"However not all this people will tread this broad and pernicious path, though a substantial majority will, especially its governing class. On account of this great fall, a terrible fiery trial will be sent from on high to this people which will despise the ways of God. Rivers of blood shall flow across their land, brother shall slay brother, more than once famine shall visit the land and gather its dread harvest, nearly all the churches and other holy places shall be destroyed or suffer sacrilege, many shall perish.

"A part of this people, rejecting iniquity and untruth, will pass over the borders of their homeland and will be dispersed like unto the people of the Jews all over the world. Nevertheless the Lord will not show His wrath on them to the uttermost. The blood of thousands of martyrs will cry to the heavens for mercy. A spirit of sobriety will grow among this chosen people and they will return to God. At last this period of cleansing trial, appointed by the Righteous Judge, will come to an end, and once more Holy Orthodoxy will shine forth and those northern lands will be resplendent with the brightness of a faith reborn.

"This wonderful light of Christ will shine forth from there and enlighten all the peoples of the earth. This will be helped by that part of the people providentially sent ahead into the diaspora, who will create centres of Orthodoxy - churches of God all over the world. Christianity will then be revealed in all its heavenly beauty and fullness. Most of the peoples of the world will become Christian. And for a time a period of peace, prosperity and Christian living will come to the whole world...

"And then? Then, when the fullness of time has come, a great decline in faith will begin and everything foretold in the Holy Scriptures will occur. Antichrist will appear and the world will end."[2]

11. Elder Barnabas of Gethsemane Skete (+1906):

"Persecutions against the faith will constantly increase. There will be unheard-of grief and darkness, and almost all the churches will be closed. But when it will seem that it is impossible to endure any longer, then deliverance will come. There will be a flowering. Churches will even begin to be built. But this will be a flowering before the end."[7]

14. Martyr-Eldress Duniushka of Siberia (+1918):

"Brother will rise up against brother! They will destroy everything acquired by their ancestors. They will sweep away religion, and -- most importantly -- there will be no master in the land!" The master in the land, of course, is the Tsar, God's Anointed One! He cannot go anywhere. This trouble will come upon everyone and grind them up, as though in a meat-grinder. The war will end, and its end will turn the whole country upside-down. Insurgents will appear, leaders, who will incite the people against the Tsar. It will be terrible!

"And later, they will seize upon religion. They will sweep away that which has been gathered through the ages and assiduously preserved by our ancestors. But it will be impossible for them to root it out; the roots will remain - and, after many years, they'll give forth a most-beautiful bloom and fruit.

"The Tsar will leave the nation, which shouldn't be, but this has been foretold to him from Above. This is His destiny. There is no way that He can evade it. For this, He will receive a martyr's crown on earth, for which He'll receive, subsequently, an eternal crown, a Heavenly one.
He will be a prayerful Intercessor for the nation and the people, when the chastisement fallen upon dozens of generations for the harm done to God's Anointed One will reach an end. The generations to come will bear the responsibility for this act on the part of their ancestors.

"The disaster in the land will disperse the people; they will be scattered to various countries, losing touch with one another. But, wherever Russians go, they will bring their culture and their religion.

Ah yes. Communism. Where they say everyone is equal but end screwing over the poor anyway.
