Is Bangladesh willing to be a part of Greater India?

My comment was kinda sarcastic! However our capital really should be replaced. Either it will be near Dhaka, or anywhere in Bangladesh, be it sylhet , ctg or anywhere.

And indeed we need decentralisation!
Decentralisation is necessary. The Govt needs to spread the bureaucracy around the country.

capital does not need to move, dhaka is the perfect location being right in the centre of BD.

But this is easier said than done, everything being so dhaka centric.

Yes unfortunately decentralisation is too hard now. Bangladesh became same disturbing as it's politics!

Most of jobs ( other than govt) are centered in Dhaka! Perhaps now in ctg as well , not sure , but in other areas almost nonexistent any good jobs for middle class families.

So everyone who can't manage govt job , wants to live in Dhaka

That's why perhaps any area near Dhaka Will be the best!

The problem is, Dhaka is beyond repair unless depopulated. Rapid urbanisation with non-existent urban planning has made supplying basic ammenities like clean water, drainage, waste management, etc. adequately to the wider Dhaka population untenable.

The best way to force people out is to spread out the important economic levers away from Dhaka. Move the capital out, scatter civil and military bureaucracies around the country, kick out non-compliant factories, impose harsh environmental restrictions on rivers, incentivise keeping cars out of Dhaka by reducing govt fees/taxes on cars used outside, etc.

Why you are trying to create division among us? We are Bangladeshi , not Dhakaiya or Sylheti!

But if you want to launch a protest for making sylhet as capital of Bangladesh, I have no problem! I will support this ;) ! As Dhaka is a dirty city with dangerous traffic jam!

Move the capital to sylhet?

Are you mad!!!!???

We Sylhetis love our peace and quiet.

Keep the riff raffs away from Sylhet. Except the rickshaw drivers - as locals don’t want to drive rickshaws.

We got out while the getting was good. So long, indian muslims. Before you go, maybe one more Pakistan murdabad? for old times sake?
They are far better than you anticipated and have surpassed you in many sectors. Cheers 🍻

I am surprised Indians were so magnanimous in '71, they should have occupied and then merged E. Bengal in their territory.

Long term this is the natural state of evolution for E. Bengal to reunify with West Bengal and then perhaps sue for independence as super Bengali state.
We were not in economic position to handle a country like BD who started the separation movement and whose needs were huge. We were happy to separate Pakistan whose atrocities created a chasm, and an opportunity to exact revenge 😉.

You forgot to mention the presence of American 7th Fleet in December 1971. It was possible for India to occupy our land amid international outcry.

For Example India, the best option is to get along with all progressive parties. Terrorist Islamic outfits are not popular in BD although they have voters.

Jamaat is not a terror party, yet BNP has not taken it as an ally. Indian politicians certainly understand its implications.

BNP is basically a progressive party. I believe a BNP govt if elected will be India-friendly. At least, it will not forge a relationship with Pakistan to that end.

Do they want to? No.

When the time comes, will they have a choice? Also no.

Bangladesh has zero strategic value to India. No land (that's soon anyways going to get submerged). Zero natural resources. And 250 million more mouths to feed and bodies to clothe, children to educate and provide jobs to. Not to mention a faith that does not get along with most of us. This decision of forming a seperate nation state and not resorbing it was taken in 1971 with an occupying Indian army on that soil. And 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war. There has been nothing in the intervening years to make us change our mind. Should things change strategically, Bangladesh will fold militarily inside a week.

Do you really understand geopolitics. Please read the map of eastern India before you repeat your ignorance that BD is non-relevant to the stability of Indian security.

Rather the question should be asked (in a real scientific poll) if West Bengal wants to unify with Bangladesh.
