IRI survey shows PTI on top of popularity list

Monday, May 07, 2012

ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tops the list of popular parties in Pakistan both at the national as well as provincial level, leaving Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peopleís Party (PPP) behind.

The survey from February 09 to March 08, conducted by the US-based International Republican Institute (IRI), reflected the popularity levels of different political parties. It showed PTI led with 31 percent votes, PML-N was the second leading party with 27 percent votes and PPP was at third position with 16 percent votes.

The population under study was representative of the adult population of Pakistan with sample size of 5,985 people aged 18 years and above. Kish method was used to select respondents aged 18 years and older within the randomly selected household. The left hand method was used to select every third household in localities selected through area probability sample.

PTI sources told The News a presentation was also given to the political parties about how the survey was conducted. In Punjab, PTI was second in terms of popularity, as it bagged 33 percent votes, PML-N popularity was recorded at 41 percent and PPP popularity stood at 09 percent. While in Sindh, the PPP led with 42 percent votes in polls, PTI secured second position with 15 percent, MQM was reflected having its popularity at 09 percent and PML-N stood at 06 percent. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Imranís party performed impressively and secured top position with 49 percent votes, whereas ANP stood at second position with 13 percent of votes, PPP popularity reflected its position at 09 percent and PML-N stood at 08 per cent in terms of popularity.

In Balochistan, PTI stood at top position with 35 percent votes, PML-N grabbed second position with 09 percent of the polled votes, JUI-F popularity graph was at 09 percent, whereas Balochistan National Party got 06 percent of the total votes.

It is said that the survey might be showing a picture of rise and fall of political partiesí popularity in the country but the polls results carried out by global or local institutes are far different from the results of general elections as shown in the past.

Keeping that factor in view, electoral experts believed the rising popularity of the PTI might be impressive but it was to be seen how this party will perform on the polling day if and when the general election is held.

IRI survey was not released for public so far. However, IRI made available the methodology and the demographics to demonstrate that the poll complies with professional standards in the industry. The sample was distributed at the provincial level, rural and urban, in all four provinces of Pakistan (except for Fata and Chitral).

DETAILED METHODOLOGY FOR SURVEY OF PAKISTAN PULIC OPINION, FEBRUARY 9-MARCH 3, 2012
April 23, 2012

The results of this poll will not be released by IRI. However, IRI is making available the methodology and the demographics to demonstrate that the poll complies with professional standards in the industry.

Poll work was conducted by the Institute for Public Opinion Research based in Islamabad, Pakistan. Oversight and analysis was provided by Robert Varsalone of Maven Public Affairs.

The population under study is representative of the adult population of Pakistan (see demographics below).

A multi-stage probability sample was used. In the first stage, the sample was stratified into four provinces. In the second stage, the sample was further stratified into districts within each province by rural and urban categories. In the third stage, each district was further stratified by union councils.

Kish method was used to select respondents 18 years and older within the randomly selected household. The left hand method was used to select every third household in localities selected through area probability sample.

The sample was distributed at the provincial level, rural and urban, in all four provinces of Pakistan (except for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Chitral). The sample was then post-weighted to make it proportionate to national representation by province.

Face-to-face interviews were conducted. The interview teams were comprised of both of males and females; the female respondents were interviewed by female interviewers and male respondents by male interviewers.

PTIans Kids……Its just like “Be-ganee Shadee main Abdullah Deewana”

The suppose victory on which you are so jumpy like monkeys is only surveyed out in age group of 18 & Plus. The one & only group where PTI have some substantial support BUT….

In that group too, Punjab the most populace province where the major battle took place for the victory in National Assembly (148 Seats out of 272 General) is leading by none other than PMLN with 41% compares to just 33% for PTI..Where is Tsunami Gone:hitwall::hitwall:

A survey carried out on all age groups will sure gives PMLN wins throughout Pakistan.

But don’t worry…keep it up your Aanian…janian from this tree to another, its quite entertaining for all of us:lol:Be-ganee Shadee main Abdullah Deewana…Aisay Dewanay ko Mushkil hay Samjhana:wave:

.
some people need BURNOL

anyway the detailed survey on pdf file shows the age groups which in fragmented into 5 categories 18-25, 25-35, 35-45,45-55,55-above

and the trend shows that PTI is the only growing party, while others are falling sharply including PMLN, its just a matter of time now that it loses all the public support, the further we expose the Noorkushti and samjhota express between PMLN and PPP, the better for Pakistan...

its a matter of ownership now, we simply cannot let the crooks leech our country any further !! and InshAllah with help of Allah PTI will win and save our country for our children... a place worth living for !!

And here people we have the product of PMLN education system.

The survey was not done on only 18 year old buddy. It was 18 plus. Meaning form 18 to 60+ year old people.

But no one expects you to understand these kinds of things, they are way too complicated for PMLN education.
Besides, even when (inshallah) PTI wins, you will be on this forum cry "but but PMLN is the most popular party in the universe !!!!!!11one"

Politicians declare assets: ‘Gilani, Shahbaz own no cars purchased by themselves’

ISLAMABAD:

The annual declaration of assets and liabilities to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) shows that the net worth of assets belonging to both Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have increased.

Shahbaz’s assets witnessed a tremendous increase of over 100% during the financial year 2011-12.

While the net worth of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s own assets crossed the Rs20 million mark for the first time this year, the assets declared by one of his sons, Abdul Kadir Gilani, a member of the Punjab Assembly, are much more than the premier’s himself.

On the other hand, Shahbaz in his annual declaration stated that the total worth of his assets now stands at Rs210.4 million. For the fiscal 2010-11 he had declared that the total worth of his assets and liabilities was Rs94.3 million only.

Still, the declared value of his own assets is less than the values of assets he declared for one of his wives, Nusrat Shahbaz – a housewife.

Shahbaz owns only one vehicle according to the form, and this too was a gift – a Land Cruiser.

Hamza Shahbaz, son and political heir of Shahbaz Sharif, declared that the total worth of his own assets and liabilities stand at Rs213.7 million while his wife Mehrunissah Hamza owns assets worth only Rs2.5 million. Hamza, however, left the column pertaining to vehicle ownership vacant.

Meanwhile, according to the prime minister’s declaration, the only business transaction he had during the whole year was the purchase of three acres of agriculture land in Hamidpur Kanora, in his native town Multan, priced at Rs4.8 million. The premier claimed that he purchased this land out of savings and cash in hand.

Despite having a fleet of official vehicles used for his protocol, PM Gilani is among those political leaders of the country who do not have a car of their own, according to his assets declaration.

Under the law, lawmakers are required to submit the statement of assets of their spouses and dependent members of the family. However, the premier avoided making the assets of his spouse public for the first time since he took up his office.

Ali Musa Gilani, the prime minister’s younger son who is currently facing corruption charges, did not have to declare his assets as he has been in office as an MNA for less than a year.

Eldest son Abdul Kadir Gilani, on the other hand, who is a member of the Punjab Assembly, has assets worth millions of rupees. Though he did not count the total worth of his assets, he has mentioned the value of some of his properties where their purchasing cost and present value are exactly the same, raising question marks as to when they were purchased.

Besides other properties and vehicles, he owns an imported bulletproof vehicle which according to his declaration is valued at Rs12.8 million.

Other politicians

Noor Alam Khan, a PPP member of the National Assembly from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is apparently the richest parliamentarian in the country who declared that his assets are worth over Rs32 billion – thanks to the appreciation of value of his ancestral land in prime locations of Peshawar.

Other billionaires in the lower house of the parliament include Mehboobullah Jan (PPP), Shahid Khaqan Abbasi (PML-N) and Jehangir Khan Tareen (PTI).

Usually, members either do not declare their real assets or they undervalue their assets. Under the law, ECP annually publishes the assets of all the members of Senate as well as the national and provincial assemblies but it has no mechanism to counter-check the details provided by these lawmakers.

The net worth of assets of some other leading National Assembly members are: Federal Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmed Bilour Rs1.7 billion, ANP Chairman Asfandyar Wali Khan Rs32 million, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Rs14 million, Minister for Water and Power Naveed Qamar Rs32 million, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira Rs20 million, Federal Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan Rs46 million, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar Rs51 million, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Rs50 million and Faryal Talpur Rs116 million.

Monas Elahi has assets worth 30 crore, while Khadim-e-ala has assets of 26 crore. OMG, the kid is richer than that guy!!!

Astanosh…As usual a blind and foolish frustration typical for burger kids, don't pick the items from other forums its looks lime one's dumb nw what you are actually protesting in this news.

The reality that CM owns no car? Why should he be? As a matter of fact, I personally have Santro-2004 till 2011 but the moment my company allocate me a new one, I sold my one out, now on tax papers I too have zero automobile against my name….just compares this reality keeping in view we are talking about a CM and that’s too of Punjab.

Secondly, if anyone have any objection on his assets the best way to contribute on it is to go to courts to fix the liar, don’t just make the screen smoky as the news item only intended to increase its circulations, nothing else.

In the end, just tells me why a single person Imran needs a 300+ Kanal house in Bani Gala to reside, isn’t it a waste of resources on a huge scale??

Our PM's son is richer than his father... I heard that one of his son drives a car in Punjab Uni worth 6 Crore while the PM admitted in his book that he had no money back in the 2000s to pay off of his kids' Uni/college fees etc.

Try to read this line once again... it's from no forum... it comes straight from Express Tribune.

How come he made a 120% increase in his wealth, considering that the country itself is on a nose dive in economic reforms?
