Iraq to buy $26 billion worth of armaments from United States

Iraq will buy armaments worth $13 billion from the United States by 2013 and will spend another $13 billion on weapons later, a Baghdad newspaper reported citing an Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman.

Al Ittihad quoted Major General Mohammed Al Askari as saying that Iraq has already concluded a contract worth more than $13 billion with the United States.

The money will be used to buy aircraft, helicopters, tanks, other armored vehicles, warships and missiles, to enter service with the Iraqi defense and interior ministries.

everybody would love to buy any military equipment/arms etc from americans which have TOP quality, as a matter of fact it is the americans who choose whom to sell and whom not to sell.

Considering they are being sold "brand new" outdated US equipment..
I dont see the wisdom in buying a brand new 1980's volvo to compete with your neighbor.

Because other people have problems as well when they buy four engined transports without signing security agreements and dont all the equipment..then cry about it on live-fist blogs..
And those other people should stop being smart alec's and post an informed reply..such as why the latest Block-52 F-16's are being supplied with toned down radar and the Aim-7 system..which even in its best form managed a bad record..

So you are suggesting that there is a strong possibility of Iran-Iraq war version 2.0? Unlikely. What justification would Iraq provide even with new fancy American equipment? And buying equipment alone doesn't fuel funds for war but also necesary infrastructure. Iraq lacks that right now maximum.

There is simply no reason to fight. Iraq has a democratic government as opposed to Saddam who was a military ruler and hence more war-oriented.
