Simple question, if Iraq gets partitioned along ethnic and sectarian lines (Kurds vs Arabs, Sunni vs Shia), what does the Sunni country look like? I mean they don't have any oil, so no future. Who will they then attack? Or will they just live on in peace? Without prosperity. The kurds are fortifying their are, like another Israel. What if the shia do the same? They have no enemy to the west, the kurds won't attack them once the 'disputed territories' are resolved, leaving only the Sunnis to deal with. That can be done through a hermetically sealed border. What will happen to the Sunni 6 million of Iraq?

IF that were to happen, not that I want to see it. WTF will the Sunnis do without any resources? Thanks in advance.

A truly independent Kurdistan is not possible because it doesn't have a coast line. If Turkey does let it leave Iraq it will be little more than a Turkish protectorate.

A sunni Iraqi sub-division would be a great comfort for Saudis as it would greatly relieve (said greatly, not completely) them from Iranian threat from Iraq. On the other hand, the Sunni Iraq will still be threatened by the Syria,Shia Iraq and Kurds of course, so most likely Saudis would have to ensure the stability of such a state because a stable Sunni Iraq will ensure a stable eastern border of KSA.
The most dangerous development would be a free Kurdistan and her establishment would mean greater instability in the Kurdish regions of Syria,Turkey and Iran. Free Kurdistan would serve as not only the safe heaven for Kurdish insurgencies but also a supply base in the shape of oil wealth.

True, but I've seen maps with a Kurdistan either reaching the Black Sea or the Mediterranean. Guess that's all up to negotiations. Some landlocked nations can survive though. If they aren't hostile to all their surrounding nations.

Presumably Saudi will help them out. At least I would hope so.

Why would Sunni Syria be hostile to Sunni Iraq? Syria will be partitioned also of course.
You're right about the KSA, but the KSA will also have borders with Shia Iraq..
About Kurdistan, I see it as inevitable. In the coming 5 perhaps 10 years, there will be a Iraqi and Syrian Kurdistan. Many years later the Turkish parts and also Iranian parts would join. There is no stopping it, as the West wants this and will push it. The question remains, does it have to be bloody? Can it be achieved through negotiations? (Iran's Kurdistan has almost no oil or whatever, a friendly Kurd nation might be worth it for Iran, and Turkish Kurds are extremely poor and unproductive (at least those in the Southeastern areas, might also be allowed to go by Turkey). The big question is, will Kurdistan become another fake country like Israel, who's sheer existence is there only to boss around the neighboring countries/have a puppet in the region. THAT might be a problem for it's neighbors.

It seems partitioning Iraq into shia, sunni and Kurdish areas is the best solution..
