Iraq armed groups expert Hisham al-Hashemi shot dead in Baghdad

A leading Iraqi expert on ISIL (ISIS) and other armed groups was shot dead in Baghdad on Monday after receiving threats from Iran-backed militias, security and interior officials said.

Hisham al-Hashemi, 47, was shot near his home in the Zeyouneh area of Baghdad and pronounced dead at a hospital, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

"Yes, he passed away and his body is now in the hospital freezer," said Saad Maan, head of the interior ministry's media relations department.

A medical source at the hospital confirmed to AFP news agency that Hashemi had suffered "a hail of bullet wounds in several body parts".

The investigator assigned to the killing told AFP that Hashemi, 47, walked out of his home and was getting into his car when three gunmen on two motorcycles fired at him from metres away.

Hashemi was wounded and ducked behind his car, but the gunmen approached and shot him four times in the head at close range, the investigator said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing.

Al-Hashemi was a respected security analyst who appeared regularly on Iraqi television and whose expertise was sought out by government officials, journalists and researchers.

Weeks before his death, al-Hashemi had told confidantes he feared Iran-backed militia groups were targeting him. He was known to be critical of militia activity.

His death comes as the government grapples with a spate of rocket attacks targeting United States interests in the country believed to be orchestrated by Iran-backed militia groups. A raid last week detained 14 members of the powerful Kataib Hezbollah group. All but one were released.

Al-Hashemi was a strong supporter of the popular protests that swept across Baghdad and Iraq's Shia-majority south in October - protests that had slammed the government as corrupt, inefficient and beholden to neighbouring Iran.

More than 500 people lost their lives in protest-related violence, including several prominent activists who were shot in Baghdad, Basra in the south and other cities.

He was active on social media warning about the threats of sectarianism in Iraq.

The Mullah dogs did not want anyone warning about that, so they murdered him.

@LeGenD, can you explain to me why this user does not get banned? Is it not against forum rules to troll, flamebait and derail every single thread? It has nothing do do with freedom of speech and criticism, its like me going to every single thread on PDF and somehow with no proof at all accuse Pakistan of wrongdoing to troll and flamebait Pakistani users. You just told him to stop flamebaiting in the thread about the explosion in Iran. Now he has come here and with no proof accuse Iran again, just to troll and flamebait. Please explain why he is allowed to continue and not banned

He drags Iran into every single thread on PDF, those threads who are already about Iran, he flamebaits, trolls and derails them to provoke Iranian users.

Somehow there is a difference between discussing Soleimani in a thread related to Soleimani, and blaming Iran for everything without proof. Do you have any proof it was Iran who killed this unimportant irrelevant man? Maybe it was Somalia who did it

I got proof that Iran meddles, intervenes in Iraq and spawned 500 Hezbollahi groups. And i've got proof that Hezbollahi groups have been on a killing spree in Baghdad against unarmed people.

When aware of Iraq's history, current military and political situation.. connecting the dots, the average retard/analyst would be able to figure out things.

Likewise with the rocket launches in Baghdad, when you see the recent ISOF raid capturing Hezbollahis with rocket launchers it doesn't take Einstein to figure out who has been launching these rockets. That also points to Hezbollah.

In short, valid thread.

If you have proof, please show it so we can learn. It is not like Iraqis are Godly angels that never even knew what murder war before Iranians came and thought them. You are perfectly capable of murder without our help.

Question is, will Iraq Be able to break free of Iranian influences, ever.

There are only two possibilities.

#1. Iraq go secular, and shun any religious (Shia/Iran) influence.
#2. Another foreign invasion that will Switch power back to secular/Sunnis, therefore away from Iranian proxies.

The only way is to starve Iran of funds so that they can't afford their international adventures. The Arab world need to get completely on board with sanctions and denying Iranians the freedom to travel.

It could be done by some of Saddam regime's remnants to defame Hezbollah of Iraq. There is no sectarianism in the thoughts of Hezbollah. Sectarianism means killing innocents of other religions or sects. Zionists have been spreading this fake news to provoke Muslims against Muslims for a Long time now. Like their campaign claiming huge attacks against Iranian nuclear facilities which is full of lies and propaganda.

All in all, if these Elements in Iraq push the country further towards the edge of collapse and completely fall into USA we will absolutely intervene. This is a soft warning, we wont Allow an other Saddam shielding Zionists in our West.

Our Brothers in Iraq are our only hope to avoid such a dangrous scenario, but if they fail and Iraq falls into US hands then we will intervene.
