Iran awards $2.7bn airport project to Chinese contractor

A Chinese contractor is awarded a major contract to develop Iran’s largest international airport.
Iran has awarded a contract to a Chinese company to develop its largest international airport, according to a senior transportation ministry official.
Saeid Chalandari, who serves as CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA), said on Sunday that Iran will spend at least 2.5 billion euros ($2.7 billion) to build a second phase at the airport under the contract signed with the unidentified Chinese company.
Chalandari said the company had been selected to carry out the project after intensive negotiations with several domestic and international contractors.
He said, however, that Iran will pay for the project using a barter mechanism that allows swapping crude oil for financial resources, equipment and technical services.
“The executive operation for the new terminal under the second phase development operation of the airport will probably begin until late September,” said the official while speaking to reporters in a news conference.
IKA is Iran’s largest airport and is located some 25 kilometers to the southwest of the capital Tehran. The airport offers services to 29 major international airlines with flights to 64 destinations around the world.
Iran has planned major expansion projects for IKA to turn it to a regional aviation hub although some of those projects have stalled in recent years mainly because of US sanctions on the country.
Chalandari said the transportation ministry had finished feasibility studies for the development of the second phase of IKA, adding that the project will be executed across 410,000 hectares of lands located to the south of the airport.
He said IKA’a new terminal will enjoy modern equipment and infrastructure and will operate independent of the airport’s current facilities.

South_Pars phase 11 will generate $20 billion dollars revenue annually

False. Revenue is estimated at between 4 and 5 billion USD annually, not 20 billion. 20 billion is the amount invested into the project.

Also this news is nearly two weeks old.

Iran Reports 15 Percent Grow in Largest Gasoline Supplier Output

14020610000255_Test_PhotoN.jpg

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s largest gasoline supplier has ramped up output by 15 percent in 2023 compared to levels seen in 2022 amid a rising demand for fuel in Iran, a senior energy official announced.

"The gasoline output of the refinery had reached 41 million liters per day, up from a daily production of 35.6 million liters reported last year," CEO of Persian Gulf Star Oil Refinery (PGSOR) Alireza Jafarpour said on Thursday.
He said that the PGSOR supplies another 4 million liters per day of gasoline derivatives to other refineries to help them increase their output.
"Directly and indirectly, we are responding to 45 million liters of the gasoline demand in the country," Jafarpour added.
The PGSOR is the largest refinery in the world that runs on condensate, which is a very light form of crude oil. It is located near the port city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on the Persian Gulf coast.
The refinery has played a major role in Iran’s self-sufficiency in gasoline production since it was officially opened in 2019, more than a year after Iran’s petroleum industry came under American sanctions.
The major increase in gasoline output in the PGSOR, which itself was blacklisted by Washington in July last year, comes despite the fact it is banned from accessing foreign investment and technology.
Iran’s current average demand for gasoline is more than 120 million liters per day while consumption reaches nearly 150 million liters on peak travel days.
