Whats not quite so obvious at first,is that this variant of the shahed 136 has been re-engined with the Mado MD550 4 cylinder engine, instead of the previous serat 1 rotary engine.
This increases the power from around 35hp to around 50hp.

Iran should develop a drone like this. A 500 kg payload is pretty impressive.

We had the RQ-170 design well before Okhotnik was even thought of. They have rapidly surpassed us in this regard, but I guess this is mostly because we went down the miniaturization, large quantity route instead of heavy high value asset route

I personally believe that Iran showed the RQ-170 to Russia/China for joint analysis or at the very least gave blueprints.

Iran has done pretty well considering its limitations. In a sense swarming and oversaturating the enemy is better than putting all your eggs in one basket.

At the same time imagine sending even 20 of these Russian hunter drones, each with a 500 kg warhead, at an enemy. That would be a serious problem. I'm guessing they're radar evading and can manoever ?

Mounting an air to air missile on a drone is one thing but having a drone which can simultaneously evade radar and manoeuvre to avoid incoming missiles, with a secure, encrypted data link to the operator, that's the future right there. Being able to make that drone cooperate seemlessly with fighter jets is the ultimate goal.

engine is the reason

It looks like Iran is stepping up its drone sales to Ethiopia. Turkey's Byraktar TB2, Iranian Mohajer-6, and Chinese Wing-Long drones have turned the tide against the Tigrayan rebels (aka TPLF) that were trying to overthrow the Ethiopian government. The TPLF is driven back to their Tigray region and is confined there now.

A total of fourteen flights by Iranian aircraft to Ethiopia are known to have taken place over the period August 2021 – December 2021. These include six flights by Pouya Air’s EP-PUS, five flights by Qeshm Fars Air’s EP-FAA and two flights by Qeshm Fars Air’s EP-FAB. One remaining flight was done by an unidentified Iranian aircraft using ICAO code 730000.

After almost 120 flights, it seems like the airlift between the UAE and Ethiopia has now come to a halt, perhaps over foreign pressure. At this point in time however, there seems to be a slight increase in Iran-Ethiopia flight frequency.
