Iranian & Chinese officials meet before Tehran-5+1 talks
Less than two weeks before the planned talks between Tehran and the 5+1 group (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) a Chinese diplomat held talks here on Monday with Ali Baqeri, the deputy secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has agreed with Irans proposal that the talks be held on December 5.
Earlier SNSC secretary and chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili had proposed meeting in Istanbul on either November 23 or December 5.
Baqeri told the Chinese official that the Wests approach in negotiations is not positive and favorable and that its measures are confidence-destroying while Iran has always been taking confidence-building steps.
In case the Western countries have learned a lesson from the past (experiences), we believe this round of negotiations (planned talks) would mark a turning point, Baqeri explained.
Baqeri added, If the purpose of the Western countries is to deprive Iran from its technical, scientific, industrial, and nuclear rights, negotiations would not bear tangible results.
He said Iran has always been cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency within the framework of its commitments.
The Chinese deputy minister also expressed Beijings support for the Tehran Declaration.
He added China has repeatedly emphasized that Irans nuclear activities are peaceful.
