A domestically-made water-jet propulsion system was unveiled today at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology, in a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami.

Again great job Iran's Navy and Iran's Naval industry organization! One can only hope some of the ingenuity we see in Iran's Navy and IRGC Aerospace forces one day rubs off on the Air Force when it comes to building powerplants and platforms.

That's our university. Saw them bringing in the waterjet engine on saturday. Had no idea what it is first. :partay:

Iran has been working on jet engines, you just have to be patient.

Comparing water jet engine to fighter jet engine is absurd.

If one fails the boat is stranded, if the other fails everyone is dead.

Not only that. The temperature tolerant of fighter jet engine is much much higher than water jet engine. The durability level is hard to match.

Great achievement by Iran. Here is a video explaining what a water jet engine is:

Good old Sir William Hamiliton,he took the old inefficient hanley hydrojet and completely redesigned it into the fully practical system that we have now.Kiwi ingenuity at its finest.
Good to see iran building its own, these make excellent power units for facs of various sizes including vessels right up to frigate size. You could potentially use a couple of these powered by marine turbines for burst speed and improved high speed maneuvering on larger vessels.
The valour class frigate uses a system along these lines with 2 screws and one massive gas turbine powered water jet.

I have a feeling this layout will also be used in next gen Iranian destroyers. They are also working on a 25 MW naval turbine.

Ingenuity we see in Iran's Navy or in the IRGC Aerospace forces has nothing to do with comparing a water jet with a turbofan engine.
By the most part it's the ingenuity that matters. It doesn't matter what kind of engines your working on each field has it's own specialists and technicians and each engine a specific type of alloys, composites and tools that would be required in the construction of it's various parts and regardless of the type of engine none of it would be possible without years of R&D in various fields behind it with years of investment into infrastructure, tools & human recourses behind it but most of all the will to do it!

If you look at Iran's Military there are only 2 sections of Iran's Military that is hands down weaker than it was prior to the revolution one is the Air Force and the other the Army Aviation and between the two only the Air Force has failed to maintain it's regional standing in terms of number of platforms while Iran's Army Aviation may not have as many helo's as before but we still maintain the largest Helo force in the region and Panha has managed to come up with it's own designs

While the Air Force after 40 years of sanctions has still failed to show case even a single viable prototype design and to me that's directly due to a lack of ingenuity
