Iran unveils new generation of Zolfaqar, Samsam tanks

So it is not a new tank, just some M60s taken out of storage and given a Slovenian fire control system. Not denying it is an upgrade but it should not be publicized as a "New indigiounsly made Tank".

We also upgraded our M60s indigenously but we didn't give it a new name and claimed it was a new tank.

samsam is the name army calls for m-60.i think they call t-54 with the name of "shabaviz" also.

the Zulfiqar IMO looks complete now and im guessing it has many internal changes compared to the Z-1, and the M60 with the sensors(?) looks great! Good for Iran!

Giving a new name doesn't mean that it's a new tank. Giving a new name to upgraded military hardware is very usual in Iran. You can find many examples. Azarakhsh, Raad, Toofan,........

well , we buy license of EFCS 3 and we will improve it in our country , actually when some thing is available for us , we choose the easier and cheaper path to achieve our goal , EFCS 3 was available and we buy license of it and make in our country ....

Well, Iran supporters everywhere were mislead by the news saying that the Samsam is a new Tank instead of an M60 upgrade and there are arguments about that everywhere. Wish the news would come more clear instead of showing that it is a newly made indigenous Tank is all.

FCS, replacing 105 mm smoothbore with a 120 mm & GBS and for sure you also need composite armour with add-on ERA protection... then you ll get an under powered tank since you need a more powerful engine to carry this extra load.... and then you need a totally new suspension system....... and a few more things! this is what you call an upgrade and a tank with a chance of survival in the battlefield otherwise it is a fact that good old M-60 s age is over. we had the same problem here as well...

if Zolfaqar is for real...then spending a penny for M-60 is irrational....

Zolqafar is obviously is a prototype. Otherwise they were not hiding it.

Question why they put new FCS on M60 and not T-72S, which is much better armored.
