Larijani calls for Tehran-Baku Banking Ties
22nd April 2016 in Finance, Industry
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani emphasized that the banking cooperation between Tehran and Baku should be facilitated in the wake of the removal of anti-Iran sanctions.
Larijani made the remarks during a meeting with his Azeri counterpart Ogtay Asadov in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Tuesday on the sidelines of the first meeting of Eurasian parliamentary speakers.
During the meeting, Larijani described the Azerbaijan Republic as a friendly and brotherly country of Iran and underlined the need for the further expansion of ties between the two nations, particularly in the fields of politics, economy and culture.
He further said Tehran-Baku banking ties should be facilitated following the termination of anti-Iran sanctions after a nuclear deal was finalized between Iran and six world powers back in July, 2015.
Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a nuclear deal on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16.
The comprehensive nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran, but the country is not getting the full economic fruits of the landmark deal yet.
Asadov, for his part, said that his country is also willing to boost its all-out ties with the Islamic Republic.
The first conference of the Eurasian states’ parliament speakers, titled Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the Interests of Joint Prosperity of the Counties in the Eurasian Region in the 21st Century, opened in Moscow on Tuesday. Speakers from 19 countries are attending the meeting.
