Iran will mass produce its indigenous air defense system this year even as it has equipped its air defense base with Russian S-300 missile system.

“The Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base has received the strategic S-300 air defense missile system,” Iranian defense minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan was quoted as saying by Tasnim on the sidelines of a visit to an exhibition of the Iranian Army’s air defense base Tuesday.

“Iran has developed its domestically-built Bavar-373 air defense system and will launch its mass production line this year,” Dehqan said.

“Iranian system enjoys specifications and functions similar to those of S-300. The Bavar-373 can simultaneously engage multiple aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones,” he added.

Did you also buy the side equipment from Russia with the main S300 package such as gps jammers and radar decoy emulators. Since it is a powerful radar you need to do something to protect disclosing location to enemy aerial elint.

Another thing that comes to my mind is these radars can default scan diagonally upwards so that aircraft at longer ranges for example 15km altitude 200km range considering missile range is 150km does not intercept radar beam. So aircraft cannot intercept and detect these radars with the disadvantage of lack of low altitude scan that needs to be done with other specialised sam batteries like pantsyr.


Default irregular scan pattern is also possible in my opinion to avoid detection. Long range well protected early warning radars can alert these radars to start scanning normally and tracking enemies within missile range.

Also after ever salvo sam radar needs to relocate while backup sam radar takes its place.

I don't think any other country in middle east have such kind of industrial skills to produce such a sophisticated platforms, so kudos to Iranian resilience
