Iran summons Pakistan envoy over massacre of border guards

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the Pakistani ambassador to communicate Tehran’s strong protest over the recent massacre of Iranian border guards by Pakistan-based terrorists.

On Wednesday, 10 Iranian border guards were killed and two others injured in clashes near the town of Mirjaveh in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan. The Jaish ul-Adl terror group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

During the session, Pakistani Ambassador Asif Durrani was told that Tehran strongly demands Islamabad to act “seriously and decisively” to detain and punish the terrorists, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Friday.

“Unfortunately, Pakistan’s borders with us are the least safe ones, while we have tried to provide utmost safety on our borders with Pakistan. We expect the Pakistani side to act on the previous promises…by not allowing such incidents to happen from Pakistan’s borders and soil,” Qassemi added.

Durrani offered condolences and sympathy over the tragedy and said he would inform the respective government of the Islamic Republic’s concerns as soon as possible.

Rouhani writes to Sharif

President Hassan Rouhani also wrote to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

“Pakistan’s safety, growth and efflorescence has always topped Iran’s agenda of ties with the friendly and neighboring country…Iran’s soil has never been abused against any of its neighbors, including Pakistan,” he wrote.

However, Iran “is very disheartened that it is repeatedly transgressed upon from the Pakistani soil by armed bandits and terrorist hirelings,” he added.

The Iranian chief executive further said certain countries are targeting the Muslim world’s unity through proxy warfare. Such countries, he said, were trying to replace development, prosperity, and esteem in regional countries with underdevelopment, insecurity and poverty.

Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari, the chief of Iran’s Law Enforcement Forces, meanwhile, warned Iran’s enemies that such brutal terrorist attacks “will not go unanswered.”

“Such desperate measures will never dent the religiously-devoted and revolutionary Iranian nation’s spirit of gallantry and do not make way for ill-wishers’ inroad [into the country],” he added.

France also condemned the deadly attack on Iranian border guards in a statement, saying, “We offer our condolences to the victims’ families and to the Iranian people.”

We Pakistanis should consider the fact that if there was peace in Pakistan and no monthly bombings (or compare this to cross border terrorism from Afghanistan and what standard we hold for them) then wouldn't our reaction be the same as it is of Iran if such killing of our soldiers had occured? Peace like the type Iran has internally causes people to have a completely different thinking and violence there is not treated as a norm there like it is in Pakistan.

That being said Iran too knows the security situation in Pakistan is not optimal and terrorist groups are involved in monthly (this has been reduced from weekly) if not weekly bombings. They usually shell border villages when this happens and that should not happen. There are elements in Pakistan we cannot control. They have killed more Pakistanis by a large margin than Iranians.

Let us build ties. Pakistan should also use its good relations with the Gulf (UAE, Qatar, Saudi) and work to bridge differences with Iran. I hope and wish for the best. There are some irritants like Kulbushan's stay in Iran which I am ignoring by the way. I want Iran to have a more sympathetic or pro Pakistani mindset.

I once chanced upon an Israeli and we conversed a little along the lines of historical figures. I remember his words when we were talking about Cyrus the Persian and Alexander the Great and their effect on history of the region.

We do have a very pro-pakistan mindset among Iranian politicians. the same security issues we face today from Pakistan, was our problem with kurd terrorists in west and Iranian government had a merciless operation launched and ended the violance along the border with Iraq once and for all.

we bombed the shizzam out of Iraqi side of the border. now, of course, this was coordinated with Iraqi government

the Iraqis told us that they have many security issues (like Pakistan does) and cannot deal with the border situation anytime soon, so in return they granted us the permission to launch our attacks along Iraqi border and we cleared and secured the border by ourselves.

we acted like 2 adult friend countries. now brother, let me ask you this:

the border situation cannot be tolerated by any country in this world right? so now there are some options to deal with it:

1-Pakistani army launches an operation inside Pakistani territory and clears this mess in its side of the border

2- we launch a joint attack on the terrorists

or 3-Pakistan grants us the permission to do cross-border attacks.

we cannot tolerate anything less than this 3 options and i believe as a fair person you also confirm that only these options are available and nothing less can be tolerated by us.

So tell us why is Pakistan not agreeing to any of these options?

what should Iran do now? just sit there like a duck and get hit again?
