LAHORE: The Iranian Consulate General celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution with emphasis on promotion of regional peace and integration of the Muslim Ummah to cope with the crises being faced by the Muslim nations across the world.
Talking to reporters, Iranian Consul General in Lahore Agha Saeed Kharazi said that Iran could continue with the IPI gas project with Pakistan if India was not willing to join it. He said the Iranian government was facilitating the Pakistani people who visited Iran on a visit visa. He hoped that people-to-people contact could be enhanced with improved means of communication.
He said that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khans release was an internal issue of Pakistan and Iran always respected the decision made by the Pakistani government. He said there was a possibility of peace in Afghanistan through concerted efforts of the Muslim community but it went without saying that foreign intervention in Afghan affairs had disturbed peace in the whole region. He said that the Iranian nuclear programme was developed by the Iranians themselves and not by AQ Khan.
Talking about the features of the Iranian revolution, he said that it gave confidence to the people and as a result Iran neutralised foreign threats.
Although, the war with Iraq caused collateral damage and affected development and progress yet it did not take long for the people to reconstruct everything and put their country on the path to development through joint efforts, invincible grit and fortitude, he said.
Today, the Iranian government and the nation are willing to offer their resources and capabilities, especially the latest knowledge and industrial technology, to other countries, especially neighbouring countries for their welfare and development.
He said the provision of facilities and platform to the people for their extensive participation in various decision making policies was yet another viable achievement of the revolution during the last 30 years that could be witnessed through the peoples involvement in civil and communal activities and free, fair and transparent elections in the country.
He said another achievement of the revolution was a greater Iran role at regional and international levels and one of its examples could be witnessed in the latest developments in Palestine and the Gaza Strip. He said that there was no doubt that moral and political support of the suppressed and victimised people all over the world was the cornerstone of the Iranian diplomacy that enabled the Hamas to successfully resist the Zionist regime in Palestine, which after its failure in 33 days of war in southern Lebanon faced its second humiliating defeat in less than three years.
One of the most important achievements of the Iranian nation after the Islamic revolution is the attainment of peaceful nuclear programme, which is still continuing under the surveillance of the IAEA, which was the sole lawful and authorised international agency, he said. Today, the demand for peace, justice, indiscrimination, support and assistance to the oppressed by the Iranian government with its development and progress in all the areas is commendable and perpetual statements by Ahmadinejad for global peace and justice had not only re-invigorated the most important issue of the 20th Century but it had also provided an international platform to the nations supporting liberty and freedom, apart from extending cooperation to all countries.
He said that Iran had always given priority to its relations to Pakistan by showing interest in promoting cooperation in all the areas as Iran was the first country which had recognized Pakistan at the time of its creation.
