TEHRAN – The commander of the Khatam-ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base has said that Iran plans to upgrade its missile systems in order to increase the capability to defend the country against any possible military aggression.

“The base does not think only about adding (new) missile systems from the defense industry to missile sites and phasing out previous missile systems, but it thinks about the daily upgrade of them and takes steps along these lines,” Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili said in an interview with the Persian service of IRNA published on Sunday on the occasion of the Air Defense Day in Iran, which is August 31.

“The air defense base will not remove any existing systems from the air defense network, but it is always seeking to optimize or revamp the network,” he said.

On the capability of the country’s air defense units, Esmaeili said that the air defense units of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps possess medium-range missile systems and the air defense units of the Army have short-range missile systems.

“These systems have been upgraded and have been integrated into the country’s air defense network under the command of the Khatam-ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base,” he said.
