Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar says Iran and Pakistan are two influential Muslim countries in the region, reiterating the significance of improving mutual relations in variety of fields.

As two key Muslim states in the region, Iran and Pakistan can bolster bilateral cooperation with the purpose of resolving regional woes, said Mohammad-Najjar in a meeting with Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik in Islamabad on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

The Iranian minister, who is on an official visit to Islamabad at the head of a high-ranking delegation, expressed the Islamic Republic's readiness to help Pakistan to make development.

Malik, for his part, lauded Iran's positive efforts in line with Pakistan's progress and called for strengthening cooperation with Tehran in all fields.

The Iranian interior minister is scheduled to hold talks with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his counterpart later Wednesday.

Mohammad-Najjar will exchange views with Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and visit flood-hit areas on Thursday.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has so far sent two relief aid convoys to the flood-stricken people of Pakistan via land and is set to dispatch its third shipment of humanitarian relief by air to the port city of Karachi.

Pakistani officials say more than 350 people have been killed and over 8 million have been affected by devastating monsoon rains in the south of the country.

Two million Pakistanis have also fallen sick from waterborne diseases in the deluged areas.

I refrain from using such loaded words (power/superpower/regional power), but there is no doubt that Pakistan is one of the most vital & significant countries in the region, an immensely strategically important nation with a lot of international influence & sway.

Iran too, why did you exclude Iran? Infact Iran is a regional power too, with economy bigger than Saudi.

Iran and Pakistan are regional powers that are back to back. One looks at the eastern front and the other the Western front. We respect each other enough, not to meddle in the other's affairs and could see us potentially becoming great allies, if certain policies were changed.

How is pakistan strategically located ? Once WOT in afghanistan ends, I believe no one even locate where pakistan is on the map.

Pakistan is at the crossroads of Central Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and western China while India is in the core of South Asia. Once WOT ends and U.S. leaves our region, Pakistan will connect oil rich Middle East and resource rich Central Asia to emerging superpower China while India will battle its Maoists in its north-east.

"two key Muslim states in the region" and "top regional powers" are two very different things. The Iranians aren't delusional about their power. Your title makes it seem like they are.

Why Pipeline has to pass through pakistan, It can directly to China by tajakistan.

Iran - Sea - India
Afghan-Tajakistan - China

Pakistan is used only for war supply in afghanistan. otherwise I don't see any use.
If USA-Iran relationship is good. One one cares for pakistan even for WOT.

I love Pakistanis but I think you need to be a bit realistic, having nukes does not make you a superpower. You don't even control all of the land in your country so how can you be a regional power? Your economy is in shambles, you have an energy crisis, floods, insurgency etc etc. Pakistan certainly has the potential with its huge population, but they're not a superpower by anyones standards.
