Iran finalizes $16.8bn deal with Boeing after nuclear agreement, state news says

Iran purchases 80 passenger planes, IRNA news agency says, marking biggest agreement with US company since 1979 revolution.
Iran said on Sunday it has finalized a $16.8bn deal with Boeing to purchase 80 passenger planes, a deal made possible by last year’s landmark nuclear agreement.
The state-run IRNA news agency said 50 Boeing 737s and 30 Boeing 777s would be delivered over the next decade, in the biggest agreement to be struck with an American company since the 1979 revolution and US embassy takeover.
Boeing had no immediate comment.

In September, Washington granted permission to Boeing and its European competitor Airbus to sell billions of dollars’ worth of aircraft to Iran.
The US and other world powers agreed last year to lift crippling sanctions on Iran in exchange for it curbing its nuclear activities.
President-elect Donald Trump and several Republican lawmakers have criticized the nuclear deal, but it’s unclear whether they would scrap the agreement, which was reached with Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China.

The Iranian transport minister, Abbas Akhoundi, who attended the signing ceremony, said it was a “historic” day for Iranian aviation and that the deal would create 8,000 jobs for Iranians.
“The deal has a clear message for the world: we support peace and security as well as the growth of Iran based on a win-win policy,” he was quoted as saying.
“We hope that despite changes in the US administration, the country will remain loyal to its commitments.”

Most of Iran’s aging fleet of 250 commercial planes was purchased before 1979, and as of June, only 162 were operational, with the rest grounded because of a lack of spare parts. Iran Air, whose website lists a fleet of 43 planes, offers direct flights to more than 30 international destinations, including London.
Iran Air chief executive Farhad Parvaresh said the first Boeing plane was expected to arrive in April.

Both Trump and Congress seem obstinate on selling aircraft to Iran. I've always advocated a long-term approach to building relations with Iran. They use to be America's number one ally in the Middle East until 1979. Selling Iran Boeing aircraft seems like a positive step.

simple . because that was only way Iran could get loan from west .
unlike other countries like China which is not paying its debt and has made no serious effect to give back Iran own money transferred back to Iran + past history has tought us every time we have done joint project China has cancelled the project one sidedly and eat our money with excuse of U.S Pressure or sanction. that why China no favorable view among iranian people .

It's in noone's interests, nor does either side have the patience to see a relationship.

Not to mention the $Billions the Gulf States are already giving why risk it? Airbus already needs American approval.

The older versions of the Boeing? Come on, everyone knows they're falling apart, even with the best efforts of Iranian Engineers (it's quite a feat they lasted so long and it shows the length the Iranians will go to).

These old planes can take you only so far.

Let's be serious, no bullshit.

Even with the Sanctions Iran is among the top nations of; steel/auto/cement production, scientific/medical research, aerospace, & telecommunications.

High Human Development combined with an educated work force.

And is one of the largest economic powerhouse in the Middle East without fully utilizing it's oil industry.

Let that sink in.

If the sanctions are allowed to continue to be lifted, I've said this before, Iran will have a massive economic take-off. They've used the Nuclear Deal to dangle $Billions in a buying spree from Italy to Germany and out to Russia,US, China, & Japan.

Corporations are going to make alot of money if these sanctions are lifted. And that is what the P5+1 nations are hedging their bets on, hoping all that money will discourage a nation fro developing a Nuclear Bomb.

Well that's assuming the whole thing wasn't just another excuse for to sanction Iran, but one hopes that Iran really will get as much benefit as you say it will. I know Iran is fully capable of taking off economically, but the issue is that a lot of said corporations are scared shitless of being reprimanded for what might be a violation of some US sanctions. Trump coming in will compound that issue. Essentially, Iran's economic success is tied to how much of an asshole US politicians want to be.

Don't see an issue with Boeing planes with Iran , its a commercial plane sale keeps Jobs in USA and keeps passengers safe in Iran etc who may also travel between iran and usa on planes
