Iran dropped by 30 ranks from 2011-2012 from 88 to 118. Pakistan rose from 92 to 82. Turkey rose from 37 to 43.

Iranian economy still needs to make the big leap from relying on natural sourches to industrial orientated economy or else there will be no future for the islamic republic of Iran...

Congrats to Pakistan.....It is remarkable that inspite of being so much of setback in home, your people have risen to occasion..

Turkey 5.1% snow mobiles ~blink~

Would be interstingto see Iran compared to other oil rich nations like Saudi

Agreed but their R&D in various field is impressive. They are working really hard in other departments especially in Science and Technology. I think if sanctions are lifted off, Iran can grow at much faster rate.

Other oil dependent economies like KSA are also trying to diversify their economic growth from oil to other fields.

Well Iran is under tough sanctions so i am not surprised..I think they are doing quite well considering the fact that they are facing so many sanctions.

Yara, KRAIT, sabb bakwas hai - there is no R&D going on there. They are playing with rudimentary science and selling to the world as some miracle, miracles don't happen in science.

All the things you see every other week coming out of Iran are nothing more than chest thumping and propaganda.

Buddy, look at their research papers. You can't deny the fact that their publications made in international peer reviewed journals.

I know how difficult it is to get published in these journals. Also, no matter where they get space tech, indigenous or imported, they are doing pretty well in Space field. One can't deny these achievements.

Half of Pakistan's export is textile, hope government pays attention to that.

I'm not in touch as much as I used to be in the academic world, however, as you have mentioned it now - I'll make an active effort to check out some key publications.

As far as I remember they were awful at whatever they did, and then all these grandiose statements coming out about "space breakthrough", "nuclear breakthrough", bla bla just pisses me off. A county that doesn't even have a dozen world renown theoretical physicists, how the hell are they going to make a bomb?

Then space.... well you know how tough space is.. it's not everyones cup of tea. India with it's might of resources and all available foreign help...................... for gods sake even with blue prints AND full GSLV engines from Russia at hand, took two decades to make some decent breakthroughs. And lets not forget the initial sounding rockets from US of A --> PSLV.

No, I still won't believe it. Specially the bomb part. I know what is involved in it. Yes maybe, they **somehow** succeed with a crude barrel type bomb, but a working nuke --- yeah right --- not for 3 more decades at-least!

@Hyperion Well, I beg to differ.

Reason is recent studies and ranking which showed Iran's R&D in many fields. I think there is thread on it too.

As for space breakthrough, one has to understand that there is a gap in attaining a capability after you reach a certain maximum. India got well ahead of space tech with PSLV and sent a moon orbiter, but when you try to increase capability of rockets, developing cryogenic engines, it become a different ball game all together.

Look at this way, India can send satellites in space but can't make a decent airplane engine. So we are talking of various problems with various projects.

You can question their space program if you have resounding facts to discredit it. But their successful space mission is out in open. One can't ignore the reality.

Even Pakistan has advance missile tech but it is behind in space tech. where as Iran is behind in missile tech but ahead in space tech.

Also, Pakistan was able to build a nuclear bomb decades ago, I don't think Iran will have any problem with this. As for decent theoretical physicists, Israel has targeted Iran's nuclear scientists. We don't know how many are working on Nuclear tech.

Even Iran says they are not building Nuclear bomb, then why don't US and Israel believe, either they have proofs that they are building one or they are giving an excuse. Whatever the case is, we all know Iran is progressing at decent pace in R&D.
