Iran doesn't need nuclear weapons: Pakistan

Not at all. The US has issues with Iran's efforts to generate nuclear energy. Pakistan supports those efforts and the FM said as much during his address at Harvard. If Pakistan wanted to please the US, then it would have voted against Iran at international fora, like India did. Or it would have cancelled the IP(C) pipeline, as the US had asked for numerous times. Or it would not have assisted with the arrest of Rigi, who the Iranians claim the Americans were helping/funding.

Here, a mountain is being made out of a molehill by vested interests who want to misinterpret the FMs statement to try and concoct differences between the two countries that don't really exist.

No...issues come up when Iran builds secret reactors in mountains. Civilian reactors should be in the open like all other NPT signatories and not build in secret locations.

Iran has signed away her rights to build nuclear weapons so if she does build weapons then the international community will act.

How can you question the right of a nation to have nulear bomb?

It really does not matter whether it is said by US, India, Pakistan or any other nation having Nuclear bomb.

Why any country on this earth needs N bomb????

IMO, Nukes have played a vital role in stopping several wars from WWII till today...

How? when the nation in question signed the NPT promising to not develop weapons..thats how.

.
Short of attacking the signatory of the NPT what diplomatic or economic sanctions has this country not been hit with?

.
Whats the big deal, Iran have accused Pakistan so many times for trafficking terrorist

The larger issue is how can a FM of Pak comment on the necessity of Nukes for another nation ?

.

He might be drunk hence you see a foot in mouth statement from him.

If it was me i would have said "Its Iranian internal matter to have nukes of not"

This is more along the lines of a publicity stunt and more in tune to please ears in Washington-- this coming at a time where there is a sudden lull in US-Pakistan relations. So one has to take it with what it's intention was. However, he is clearly out of place here. It would be more pragmatic on his part though if he would avoid making such onerous statements regarding Iranian matters or rather keep himself distant from them altogether.

“Who's threatening Iran? I don't see any immediate threat to Iran,”

Qureshi is, or ought to be, more than aware of Iran's predicament. I hope Iran does not respond at all to this outburst and thereby give it more value then it deserves. Indeed, Qureshi would be more interested in it being let passed over himself. His words may have pleased some distant ears, but he has surely dismayed the Iranian public, who will without a doubt take this as the official Pakistani view.

.
Pakistan secretlyn wishes all muslim countries to be nuke capable or else the looting and plundering of eastern wealth by corrupt eurpoean theives will never stop.. If India has it, Pakistan has it, Israel has then Iran should have it too..

It is ok for India to have nukes and missles to gain international respect per se the words of its own missle father. But Pakistan and Iran are rouge / terrorist / clercial / failed for persuing the same..

but if it would be to please US ears as you say after the relations between two countries went down, then quraishi would have also opposed the iranian civil nuclear program, but it seems, qurashi told openly that it would rather support its right which means pakistan is supporting iranian advancements and trusts its view point of friend nuclear teachnology

secondly, iran has been officially stating that it is not gonna build up bombs, so iranians should rather worry about what the official stand of iranian govt regarding this issue is in the first place.

and not to remind to you, how offensive iranian stand was when pakistan detonated nukes, so its hypocrisy to expect good will from the same country now..

isn't the Iranian "official" view that the enrichment activities are for "peaceful" purposes related to energy production??

you and I are not stupid to believe that; but that is the Iranian official position is it not?

and yes, couldnt agree with you more; it was pleasing to some ears, but i don't see Iran stopping its enrichment activities anytime in the near future

Are we all sufferring from brain damage?

It seems we've all forgotten that Israel has nuclear weapons, and can threaten the entire muslim world.

It wasn't referring to behind-the-scenes intentions or motives-- the Iranian government (and bureaucrats) at most is least moved by them. I was referring to the remark itself only. Understandably, you can imagine it to forge some notions in the minds of ordinary Iranians on the street.

It is ok for India to have nukes and missles to gain international respect per se the words of its own missle father. But Pakistan and Iran are rouge / terrorist / clercial / failed for persuing the same..

Your forgot to add the 'failed state' and the 'not natural state' conundrum to that list. :P

Qureshi would not have opposed to the program because such opposition is more difficult to justify and would arguably be a less than pragmatic approach to foreign relations. Also, he is finding an diplomatic equilibrium. I find it to not be more than a political maneuver than a matter of policy.

An offensive Iranian stand to Pakistani detonations? Do go ahead and remind me so as to substantiate your claim, sir. Preferably provide official Iranian statements.

secondly, iran has been officially stating that it is not gonna build up bombs, so iranians should rather worry about what the official stand of iranian govt regarding this issue is in the first place.

The argument I presented was not about the debacle concerning the official Iranian view but on the nature of the comments. If an Iranian official expresses a view about an Iranian program, it is an entirely different matter to a non-Iranian official expressing a view on an Iranian program.

you and I are not stupid to believe that; but that is the Iranian official position is it not?

Refer to the above.

and yes, couldn't agree with you more; it was pleasing to some ears, but i don't see Iran stopping its enrichment activities anytime in the near future

Indeed, that is what is most certain element of the entire Iranian program.

Please check the facts before mud slinging..Iran is a brotherly country which has always stood in favour of Pakistan barring few bloopers despite closeness to India  Also Pakistan was first to recognise post-revolution Iran and Khomeni regime. Khomeni is respected as a figure in Pakistan with offical honour and a day is celebrated in his memory.

Iran

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mahmoud Mohammadi said on state television, "Iran follows with deep concern the crisis created after the recent nuclear tests [in Pakistan on 28 May 1998]. The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on Pakistan and India to promptly cease all tests and stop the nuclear race and join the [Nuclear] Non-Proliferation Treaty." The Iranian government also took the opportunity to push the idea of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. "The recent developments once again point to the necessity of giving serious attention to setting us nuclear-free zones, especially in the sensitive Middle East region, which is under the threat of Israel's nuclear arsenal," Mohammadi said. President Mohammad Khatami told Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the week before the tests that he understood Pakistan's security concerns after India's nuclear tests son 11 and 13 May, but he urged Islamabad to exercise restraint.
(Reuters, 29 May 98)

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said that Muslims throughout the world will feel more confident now that Pakistan has nuclear weapons because it will help balance Israel's nuclear capability.

Source: CNS - World Reaction to the Pakistani Nuclear Tests

As stated above, the forgien ministry spokeman is following the same yada yada of international standard acustomed with nuclear activity. The real jewel in crown the word of FM then Mr Kharazzi himself. If you go through the page you will notice that even the friendliest of the friendly countries have been giving the standard anti-nuclear yada yada while congratulating us in the open or in the heart!

Arab League

The Egyptian-based Arab organization denounced Pakistan's nuclear tests calling them a "dangerous" step toward an arms race.
(CNN, 28 May 98)

The funniest reaction was that of bhartis

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said during a televised parliamentary debate over India's nuclear policies that Pakistan's nuclear tests "vindicated" India's decision to detonate its own nuclear devices two weeks earlier.

A 'truth-be-told' type factual answer, I obviously cannot provide of course and nor can anyone else for that matter who is unconnected to the program. What can be offered at best are speculations and analysis both in favor and against it. At best I can provide my own derived justifications to support the Iranian position. If you wish for me to explain them I can oblige.
