Iran deploys new home-built long-range radar - The Hindu

Iran says it has deployed a new domestically built long-range radar system, signalling a strengthening of its air defences as it holds what may be the final days of talks on a nuclear deal with world powers.

Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps' (IRGC) air defence force, unveiled the Ghadir phased-array radar in Ahwaz city in southwestern Khuzestan province near the Iraq border, state television said late on Saturday.

Iran says the Ghadir unit is designed and manufactured entirely inside the country and can detect a plane at 600 km (373 miles) and a ballistic missile at 1,100 km.

In comments suggesting the radar can also identify miniature unmanned drone aircraft, Brig. Gen. Esmaili was quoted by the Fars news agency as saying: "Discovering and tracking micro aerial vehicles (MAV) ... is one of the special qualities of the Ghadir radar system."

Iran has taken steps to develop its air defences after U.S. and Israeli officials warned of possible military action to curtail its nuclear programme, and is in discussions to buy the advanced S-300 ground-to-air missile system from Russia.

Top U.S. commander General Martin Dempsey in April said the 'military option' against Iran remains intact. The United States and Israel fear Iran is trying to obtain a nuclear weapon. Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.

Iran and world powers made progress in nuclear talks on Saturday, but remained divided on issues such as lifting United Nations sanctions and the development of advanced centrifuges. Negotiators have given themselves until July 7 to reach a deal.

The news had been posted in Iran's airdefence thread.

Anyway, the is Iran's second Ghadir radar, first one was shown last year.

The 3rd one will be shown soon and in the near future,Sepehr radar with range of 3000km will also be ready.

I wish Iranians good luck and I hope that Iran is indeed interesting in a nuclear weapon rather than not. Afterall 5 countries in Asia (including Israel) other than Russia have nukes but according to terror supporter US Iranian nukes are out of the question.

We Pakistanis were subjected to much of the same biases when we were developing nukes in response to India's tests (Smiling Buddha) in 1974. But in the end we padded through and gained nuclear capability in 1998. The entire nation celebrates it today as it gives us equal power to India at least on one front.

It is US hypocricy that keeps it silent on Israel's nukes but is eager to limit Iranians capability to produce one. I for one have no fear of an Iranian nuclear weapon. In fact having gone through the same struggle and the same threats I sympathize with Iran, even one that is a nuclear neighbor.

It does. You can find more information in the attached document showing the wave lengths and shape:

OTH Radar from Iran on 10 m - International Amateur Radio Union - Region 1

The Over The Horizon (OTH) Radar from Iran is daily transmitting on our 10 m-band, often long lasting on 28245 kHz. You can hear a high and a low tone, corresponding to the sweeprates of 870 and 307 sweeps/sec. The system is about 60 kHz wide, the splatters are covering +/- 250 kHz. The Austrian, Dutch, Swiss and German PTTs have been informed. For more information click here!

My friend, I don't want to take this thread off topic as it is not about the nuclear issue but I will say this,
You think if Iran wanted a bomb it already does not have one? You think Iran will use its open program to develop atom bomb arsenal? If Iran wanted the bomb, it already has the bomb. Just look at Iran's open program. They have made the IR-8 centrifuge with SWU of 24. this is 24x more faster than Iran's original centrifuges. Just a few hundred of these Ir-8's are enough to build bombs in a small, hidden facility. This is assuming Iran does not have centrifuges beyond Ir-8 which is none-sense as for sure Iran undeclared capability is superior to its declared one.

I don't see why Iran is in need of a bomb. Iran already has a deterrent capability, nobody will make a move against Iran with or without nuclear weapons. Of course if Iran feels they need the bomb, they will make it. It all depend if Iran wants the bomb or not. We can only speculate, but as far as we are concerned, Iran could easily already have the bomb and it's a matter of when will they declare themselves a nuclear power. Iran will in the future have an industrial scale open nuclear program which will be able to produce enough enriched uranium for an entire arsenal of nukes within a few weeks. This in itself is an extremely potent added deterrence.
This current deal, if gone ahead could allow Iran to develop such capability in 10 years without anyone being able to do anything about it.

But lets not take this thread off topic too much. This is about Ghadir OTH radar.
