Iran can make U.S. anti-missile systems "ineffective": commander - People's Daily Online February 05, 2010

A senior Iranian military commander, Major General Hassan Firuzabadi, said Thursday that Iran can make U.S. Patriot anti-missile systems "ineffective" by simple tactics, the official IRNA new agency reported.

"It is possible to make the U.S. Patriot anti-missile systems ineffective," the joint chief of staff of Iran's armed forces was quoted as saying.

"I advice the regional states, especially the Islamic states, not to waste their funds on the (anti-missile) systems since they not passed any tests anywhere," said Firuzabadi.

"Installing the U.S. Patriot anti-missile systems in the ( regional neighboring) states is a new trick to empty the treasury of affluent Persian Gulf countries," he was quoted as saying.

Washington has plans to deploy anti-missile systems off Iran's coast in the Gulf states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, according to the reports.

Tehran claims Washington's move are aimed to secure Iran's arch- foe Israel and to counter Iran's missile capabilities and Tehran's nuclear program.

Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Tuesday criticized the U.S. arms deployment in some Gulf states as the main problem of the region, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

"Regional countries must know that the U.S. puppet show for security and protection of the region is nothing but a new political fraud and it wants to pave the way for its presence in the region at the expense of other countries," he was quoted as saying.

Larijani referred to the deployment of U.S. missile systems in four Gulf states, saying, it is interesting that regional countries' concern about Iran has been declared as the justification for the move, according to Fars.

Last week, Iran's parliament speaker said in Kuwait that Iran's military capabilities are for the security of the regional states. He urged the Arab states in the Gulf not to allow the U.S. forces to use their territories for operations against Tehran.

Iran has repeatedly said that its military enhancement has defensive purposes and that its nuclear program is peaceful and intends to generate electricity for civilian use.

how does anti-missile systems works? anyone know?
I think the only effective anti-missile system has to be built using lasers technology... other than that... its a waste of money.

and I don't think the current laser technology is up to the challenge, since it takes to long just to recharge, huge and costly. (for each one and you will need many of them)
