IPL ruling out was planned : Razzaq

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): Pakistani All-rounder Abdul Razzaq has revealed that the exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from the 2010 IPL tournament was a premeditated plan and has given his own example as a proof that the franchises were under commands not to offer on any Pakistani players. “I signed a contract with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in August 2009 so I was already signed up to an IPL team before the 2010 IPL auction took place.” Razzaq said in an exclusive online interview with cricistan.com.

Razzaq’s presence in the IPL tournament was problematic for those who wanted to ensure that no Pakistani players took part in the 2010 IPL. He was already under contract and they needed to find a way around this. So they convinced Abdul Razzaq to relinquish his contract with Kolkata and submit his name for the auction.

For the first time Razzaq reveals why he ended up on the auction block despite already having secured an IPL contract.

“I had already signed for Kolkata but they told me they wanted to add my name to the auction list. They said that I would be worth a lot more at auction than my current contract. So I signed a waiver on my Kolkata contract and they got what they wanted.”

“It was a plan from the start; they didn’t allow any franchises to bid on Pakistani players. You can’t hide these things in the modern world; it’s an open secret that this was a political decision from the Indian government.” Razzaq told to Cricistan.com.

As soon as Razzaq became a free agent, the IPL had no further obstacles in their path and we all know what happened next.

Razzaq thinks it’s a shame that the world of sports is being dragged into politics because sport has the power to become a unifying force.

“Sport is one of those international bridges which can help foster good relations between nations. If you think back to the first Pakistan v India series in recent times (2004), it led to the thawing of relations between both sides at every level.” Razzaq told Cricistan.com.

What Razzaq has revealed will come as no real surprise to those who’ve already come to the same conclusion. What reason other than a political edict could there be for a T20 tournament not to pick a single player from the T20 World Champions.

But given the recent reports of possible financial irregularities and rumors of match fixing during the IPL.

The Pakistani players are probably much better off having stayed at home.

Anyone can tell you it was a political move and with the amount of corruption and the kind of charters that are found in IPL, it was easily planned and executed.

That Lalit guy who is in charge of IPL is a criminal, his past says so.

there might not be anything ILLEGAL about it, but it is a downright low blow. There are certain ethics we should maintain as civilised people. if Razzaq's story is true he was hoodwinked in a shameful manner.

I believe it was wrong to exclude Pakistani sportsmen. At the end of the day, sports should be kept separate from politics. our issues with pak govt should not affect cricket. I'm sure a lot of Indian public would have liked to watch some pakistani players like Afridi and Umar Gul.

And even if for some reason we didnt want them it would have been much better if the Pakistanis were told not to put their names for auction. But to encourage them to submit their names and then to reject them is like issuing an invitation to a party and then making the person stand at the gate coz the invitation was fake.
